That is one place where I will give Lucas credit - he has made his decisions about Star Wars and doesn't seem to go out there explaining himself everytime someone complains. With people like Orci, I think it is them trying to prove they are superior to the fans and don't realise that what they are doing makes them look like pricks real quick.
Katie Lucas has responded, though. The mindless criticism that was foisted upon her father - which at its worst was hateful and cowardly (again, morons hiding behind keyboards) - clearly affected him, even to the point where he did say something to the effect of "Why would I make more Star Wars films if everyone thinks I'm a terrible person?" So, well done to those weak and inadequate people, thanks to them we've got to face Star Wars under the stewardship of the bloke who brought us Lost. Oh, great.

Sorry, if you are an artist or entertainer and you put something out there for the masses to pay money for you need to expect criticism and not whine about it when it comes. Lucas deserves every bit of hate he has received over the years. As far as Orci, you can give a bunch of apes some Mad Libs and they could come up with a better story than Star Trek Into Darkness.

Don't be ridiculous, of course they could.

It's all over the place.

Sometimes it's blue. Sometimes it's white. Sometimes it's blue with patches of white. Sometimes it's white with patches of blue. Sometimes it's grey. Sometimes it's red. Sometimes it's orange. Sometimes it's purple. Sometimes it's black. Sometimes it's black with an orangeish tint to it.

What's it like in yours?
I don't really give a tinker's cuss what someone thinks about Jar Jar Binks. I'm talking about the manner in which people like RedLetterMedia (and I'm calling him out in particular because he's put himself out there as one of the very type of people to whom Kevin Smith alludes) conduct themselves. I think we can all think of at least one similarly boorish character from our school days - the twit who loved the sound of their own voice to the extent were they would end up sat on their own in the school canteen, the kid who could clear a playground simply by stepping into it. You leave them behind you when you leave school, thankfully. Hopefully never to see them again and then, bang, there they are holding court on the internet, still living at home, still wearing the clothes that their mother picks out for them.

God, I really need to lay off the coffee don't I?

There's a fine line between criticism and accusing Lucas of "raping my childhood."

Well, the fact that you think anyone deserves hate, artist or no, says a lot about you. None of it good.

Yes, perspective really went out of the window when that comment first appeared. That's the one that made me look at other Star Wars fans and think "Am I really from the same species as this lot?"

Wearing a "Han Shot First" shirt is reason enough to hate George Lucas. Him putting a picture of wearing said shirt in the Indiana Jones blu-ray set makes him an *******. I swear the only reason he added the "No, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" To Jedi is because he knows how much the fans disliked it in Sith. It was his last middle finger to the fans before selling the rights to Disney.

Or maybe, unlike many fans, he has a sense of humor.

You're not 'calling him out'. You're sitting behind a keyboard and calling him names.

Which is fine.

Ironic, but fine.

Well, don't you?

This is a bit like encountering a dodo or some other mythical creature that one has heard of but never met. That is to say, I knew that somewhere there must be people who think as you do but, so far, I've managed to avoid having any discourse with them. This is a "triste occasion".

I don't think you fully understood my post. I basically said the internet is a new form of bullying, because the old form of punching out someone for what they say has been circumvented. It's just a trade.

But the cyber opinions that are now sometimes loudly and rudely expressed (by ALL of us at one point or another) were always there, even before the internet.

Physical intimidation is just no longer the weapon of choice. Humans (again, ALL of us) can be real cruel and selfish a**holes sometimes, regardless of the tools of expression that are employed. It's just how we're built.

So you only have discussions with people you agree with? Seems like you are the one who needs to get out more.

If you claim anything else as being "ironic" you'll have to change your name to Alanis.

But there again is the issue - writing off the complaint. I personally don't like the direction JJ and crew took with the last few films but if you provide legit arguements, you get written off as not liking movies, being too much of a fanboy, not liking change, etc. The complains I have heard about Into Darkness are legit, not just complaining because there was too much lens flare. A convention full of people complain that the movie sucks and it is written off but a few hundred reviewers online say how good it is and that gets held up as the reason why the internet crowd is wrong - "the people say it is good". People are not saying it is good and online is the only place they can say that because everyone ignores them elsewhere. He didn't give them perspective, he told them that they don't count because he is a writer in Hollywood and knows better. That is part of the issue - there are tons of people complaining over minor things but when honest complains and feedback are brought up, people lump it is with "that internet crowd" as an excuse to just ignore it. I'm not trying to trash Into Darkness as they are not the only ones who do it but that seems to be the way things are today - put out movies that visually look good but have no real story to them and then complain about the internet fans when they tell you it sucked. You need to listen and respect the fans somewhat as they are the ones keeping you employed. The only way for them to tell of the problems is online as if they stop going to the movies, Hollywood always has an excuse to justify things - movie piracy, films just ran their course, they were only planning 3 movies to begin with, etc. With Lucas, he just did what he felt is best and didn't waste his time arguing with people. Obviously he heard it but he showed some class by not getting into a fight where as Orci showed why he should have never been involved with Trek to begin with.

I am sorry but telling a screenwriter that you think his work sucks in a chat room is not even remotely comparable to bullying a teenager because of their appearance, sexuality or social status.

I do agree that going after Lucas' children is disgusting.
