Anyone here got the BD+DVD of avatar here?Guess so,but for those who have:Is the DVD a bad transfer,or is it just that the BD shines so bright?Compared them, and the DVD-I thought-looked horrible. But I may very well have been blinded by the PQ on the BD.

Lots of people have speculated that the DVD is a particularly bad transfer, perhaps a purposeful attempt to show off how amazing the BD is by comparison.

just wanted to let everyone know i had no problem at all playing back avatar on my sammie bd-3600. its about 1.5 years old now, - did get firmware warning screen at the start, but after i put in usb stick with new firmware, runs like a beast!

id just like to take the time to say how great the picture quality was. What a movie and a half. Kudos to FOX for putting out such a great release.

Probably has more to do with the file size. The blu-ray is 45 GB(almost), I would guess the DVD is probably 1/5 that.

Exactly, not to mention the fact that it naturally would look bad in comparison to the Blu-ray. It looks good for a DVD, but that can only be so good.

While this will probably become the best-selling blu-ray ever, it will also move an insane number of copies on DVD so it would make little sense to make a bad DVD transfer on purpose.

Guys, I really do not think that Fox would try to sabotage the DVD version . DVD just does not have the capacity or bandwidth to handle Avatar.

This disc has a great Resume Play feature. I wish more BD releases would use it.

That really sucks. Want to me to fly to wherever it is on my Ikran and then fly it to you? It would be a lot faster, unfortunately.

Thanks for the link re: the cameras.

This may seem weird, but we are planning a DIY, very slightly curved, acoustically transparent screen with fabric by Seymour AV. It will be 10 feet wide for 2.39:1, which would be about 45 degrees in our room. The fabric bought for DIY is so inexpensive (compared to a pre-made screen) that the only thing that stopped us from designing a 60 to 80 degree screen is that our experiments indicate that the typical BD won't support it. Screens in 70 mm theaters we are familiar with can easily cut off this angle, and even much larger. 2001: A Space Odyssey in 70 mm can survive about 150 degrees, as we repeatedly found out in '68 by trying it. SOoooooo .... As our home front projection screens get larger, and as Blu-ray is superceded by something of higher definition (say, 4 to 8k), wouldn't we get to the point when we would want digital movies shot in 4 to 8K, i.e., approaching the resolution of 70 mm, so we can replicate the size we used to see in the theater, or that we see now in IMAX, vertically, anyway? There are certain films that would look great at that size!

The dvd is one of the best looking dvd's, there's just so much going on the old codec's and lack of space struggle to keep up.

Well it is showing that it made it to the local post office today so it should be here tomorrow, which ironically would match the fastest that I received an export order from the UK.
