MGS3's ragdoll was pretty funny because it would max out at 4 ragdoll actors on screen at a time. so if you, for example, grenaded 7 guys at once, 4 would react as a ragdoll, and the other 3 would roll away fully stretched out and rigid.
I don't believe this is true. All previous MGS games to my knowledge have all used animations. Some of the explosions in MGS3 looked like it was ragdoll, but I believe that was just the animation of the enemy being flung really far.

Ragdoll is finally here, mixed in with animations(no better way to do it).. and it looks GREAT.

they might have varioius animations while flying through the air, but the direction, speed, height, etc that their body is flung is calculated by physics and as soon as they hit the ground, 4 of them ragdoll. their bodies also slump and hang over ledges instead of sticking straight out, and when dragging the bodies, their legs and arms flop around dynamically and will flop down stairs, or crumple against walls, etc.

their bodies are just weighted really well and the effect is very convincing. it doesn't scream OVERDONE RAGDOLL PHYSICS RIGHT HERE like a number of game's powerpoint bullets.

Ah yes-- The afterdeath ragdoll has certainly been in MGS for awhile, but it was usually animation---hit the floor---enable ragdoll. What MGS4 looks to do is add some deaths where the ragdoll is initiated right away, instead of after an animation.

I think this will be great for explosions. I've always been a fan of the animations, so a combination of the two will be great.

I hope the gameplay is more stealth orientated than the trailers have made it seem

As do I. I am not fond of war games, and metal gears odd stories and stealth gameplay are why I like it. The last thing I want is another Gears of war or Ghost Recon from this game. Though I think Kojima would be stupid to do this and since I know he is anything but that I don't think we have much to worry about.

This game is everything I've ever wanted from an online shooting game...stealth, concealment, a ****ing combat knife, communication, using cover and so forth. Ow yeah...I see a lot of people being pissed off about getting knifed already.

Ryan Payton and Mark MacDonald are back to chat about the recently announced MGS: Essential Collection (North America), our favorite games of all-time, and how MGS4 will integrate the stories of previous titles in this hour long edition of the KP Report!

And as mentioned in the show, be sure to read this fascinating article about MGS2 by James Howell. Required reading before you play MGS4!

The KP Report Session 079

Ryan Payton and Mark MacDonald are back for one more show before Mark heads back to the Motherland for the mother of all vacations. They also preview next week's show which will feature Alexis Tylevich and Ken Imaizumi!

Ryan Payton
Mark MacDonald's working on the games subtitles, among other things making sure they don't reveal important info too soon before the voice acting. I find keeping subtitles on helps me to absorb everything with games like MGS so this is a helpful development.

Next week Ryan P. and Ken I. with Alexei Tylevich from Logan (also designed the MGS4 logo, iPod ads..) are going to be discussing how the games wonderful intro is developing, without spoiling it of course.

RockStar wanted money early on in the campaign and more assistance with development before the first few development kits were even sent out.

Pretty much, from what I understand, GTA4 is RockStar being prissy [arguably rightfully so, I don't know the full situation :P] about not getting better consideration from Sony.

And as you said, Microsoft would have been willing to get into a bidding war over it.

I don't think Sony paid for MGS4 exclusivity, but I do remember Sony having an agreement that MGS4 would stay exclusive.

But Hideo Kojima always makes exclusive games, never multi-platform. Multi-platform is just not his style, he prefers quality over quantity. If some of his games go to other platforms, it is because Konami decides to port it and other teams work on the port (I dont think Hideo Kojima is happy when this happens though, because the final port usually has some hick-ups).

Hideo Kojima is the kinda guy that usually favors Playstation platforms. I think he agrees with the vision and mission of Sony/Playstation and Ken Kutaragi.

Gamespot UK Metal Gear Online Hands-On

Quote:
When first playing MGO, you'll need to register a new character, a process that offers an impressive level of customisation. You can customise your face, headwear, torso, legs, leg attachment, head attachment (such as adding a headset, balaclava, or goggles), vest/jacket, and camouflage options (of which we saw beige, smoke blue, black, and green options). You'll then need to choose four specialties (skills) for your player, ranging from shotgun, sniper, submachine gun, and support specialties to others such as increasing your auto-aim accuracy (which, while playing a match, can be activated with a quick button press).
and

16 New Screenshots!

Should be seeing a lot more of this now.

I like the fact that it sounds like a slow tactical game, but it sucks that the preview said it was more action orientated... then again so is warhawk but i play that game at a slow pace.

I also found another preview by eurogamer: http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php...d=93022&page=1

"Set off a claymore, and it may not kill you outright - but the shockwave from the blast could knock you off a ledge or a ladder, or simply throw you backwards out of cover."

That part in particular sounds hilarious. knocking a guy off the side of a building would be immensely satisfying.
