I think that's a given, seeing as the re-tweaked Last of the Mohicans Blu-ray carried the same subtitle (well, "Director's Definitive Cut").

To me it's more if there's an opportunity to release a 4K UHD of a catalog title then do it now and not wait, because with physical media overall on the decline there may not be another opportunity in the future.

Are any of these features new? It has been a few years since I watched the special features on my BR copy.

Makes little sense to me.
They will eventually release it in 4K... but perhaps not on disc since physical media isn't the future. But maybe they will. I guess we will see.

I'm not fretting in any case, as this won't be some radical revision or BluraySe7en would surely have noticed with that screening of the 4K version.

Thinking about, it may even just be the exact same revised version as the prior Blu-ray, only with an official "definitive" designation instead of putting "new content changes supervised by director Michael Mann" on the cover like before.

It's not? It's ALREADY gone somewhere. Down in sales. Every year. Sorry.

Physical media is like the 3.5mm headphone jack. Disappearing slowly.

I think there's a pretty strong chance of a true 4k release... and I think I'm going to wait for it...

lol posting articles from January. every year journalist making predictions about physical media dying. Studios see physical media dying so much that they decided to say "hey phsycial media is doomed lets created 4K UHD a whole new format to give viewers a better home experience" sounds like logic eh? lol. Anyways If you actually look at numbers bluray is 1.65%, or, $24 million over last year, so you saying its been going down or declining every year is 100% wrong

With each new media format less movies are being added to it. DVD is the last great format that had wide adoption from both studios and consumers. Overall, the trend is towards digital, whether people want to accept it or not. There will always be a place for physical media, but that place is shrinking, and will continue to shrink.

Physical media will be around a long time, even if it gets super niche. If laserdisc could support a format then BD and UHD will be around. Heat is the kind of major movie that would get a release no matter how small the market is. I wouldn't worry about it.

Also since it's Fox I fully expect a combo pack anyway.

I wouldn't fret about it being a different version than the Blu ray one. As someone who is pretty familiar with this film having seen a good few times over the last 2 decades I'd say nothing stood out to me apart from those dialogue changes.

This is Heat as you remember it just with that little dialogue tweak.

Great to see the Q&A is there in the package, if it's that and all the other extras ported over I'll be happy with that.

Looking forward to hearing about the audio as well. Remember reading about how Mann went to downtown LA and recorded the sounds of various weapons used in the big shootout. Captured the sound of the gunfire bouncing off the skyscrapers. Really adds to the scene.

When Laserdisc was a "niche", there was no steaming or any other option besides videotape. Big difference, and why that analogy doesn't apply today.

It's not meant as a direct analogy. It's just a point of reference to streams being mainstream and a mostly rental style format with BD/UHD as the laserdisc style alternative for enthusiasts. The point is there will always be an audience that wants higher quality and true ownership and there will always be labels and studios who want to make money selling to that audience.

There will be digital exclusives, and prices will go up more probably, but there will be movies on discs for a long time to come.

Audio/subs are not always accurate.
