Nope, they've used the checkeboard format since 2007. Here's an article explaining a lot of it.

I don't think a lot of people realize how cheap you can get a massive DLP because most of them aren't sold in stores.

I'd prefer something not as big as my car and that I can see from any angle, not just sitting straight in front of it.

Side viewing angles are actually about perfect. Top/bottom viewing angles aren't as good but I don't think most people watch movies standing up or laying on the floor. As for the size, the depth on my 73 is about 18 inches so it's a pretty small footprint. Sorry for being off-topic but just trying to clear up some misconceptions of a great, neglected type of TV.

I'm very familiar with it. Three separate friends have the TV. One is a 60in, one a 73, and other an 82. All of them have washed out colors on different viewing angles and the TVs take up a very large space.

I was in the market for a new TV the past few months and considered it. Realized DLP is now come and gone, and chose a new Panny plasma instead. No need for 3D though. Don't feel like re-investing in a new receiver, player, and movies all over again.

Correction it won't be out for general retail till 2011

A 3D version is coming out in November sold exclusively with Panasonic 3D televisions

Its unknown whether it will be the theatrical cut or the extended version but will most likely be barebones

Red/Blue Anaglyph 3D works on all color televisions

All 3D televisions released prior to March 2010 are checkerboard. Meaning they require a converter box and half horizontal resolution to each eye. Even so the 3D they produce is still far better then anaglyph.

Is the upcoming BD 16 minutes longer than the first theatrical release, or 16 minutes longer than the theatrical re-release?

Same. That's pretty much exactly what James Cameron's interviews outright stated. But what does he know.

I mean is there any real justification for the collecters edition being 2D only other then to make more money. If he wants to demonize corperations persuit of profit (as Avatar clearly does) why does he start by parking his private jet and then releasing a 3D version for general sale in November.
What are you talking about? 3D BD will happen somewhere in the 2011, perhaps even later. Nowadays it's usual practice to release barebones DVD with SE DVD (with supplemental materials etc). The only difference it wasn't released simultaneously. Because they couldn't finish extra footage and all supplemental in right way prior initial release on Earth Day.

3D Blu-Ray is here now. Sony proved with Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 3D releases work just fine. There is not a single reason a 3D Blu-Ray version can't be released for everyone in November except pure greed. Cameron has for the years always attacked captailistic greed always potraying the rich successful sort as the villians in his movies. Avatar was the most blatent example of this yet. However when push comes to shove he choose to milk his fans for all there worth and holds back readily avalible technlogy from them in order to make yet another double dip in 2011.

Just calling a fact what it is. If Cameron was an apolitical filmmaker I could see this as simple capalistism at work. However I have a deep hate for hypocrites and James Cameron is the king of hypocrites.

True. James C is an AMZING artist and a great storyteller, but many don't like him as a person. He's a bit of an a$$hole and hypocrite.
