It's so weird. I installed the latest firmware and the playback has improved from before. I was able to play most of the discs fine(Orphan, The Ninth Gate, Drag Me to Hell) But when I popped in the 2 other discs(The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, Easy Rider), it skipped again. I stopped playing The Good, the Bad and the Ugly and decided to play it again. No problems. It didn't skip at all. On the other hand, Easy Rider has been skipping like crazy. I don't know what the heck is going on. I might just use it as a Region B player only. As far as I can say, the Region B discs have played fine with no problems.

Was the player running when you input the USB stick or started cold?

Default New Settings Color Space & Deep Color

Finally got the firmware to work which includes new settings for Color Space (xvYCC, YCC, RGB) and Deep Color (36Bit, 30Bit, 24Bit)

Also, had to reset the player for Region B playback.

I seem to be having problems trying to install OLD firmware into the 799 (clone) player, to have it region-free.

I downloaded the RAR file, unzipped it, burned that information onto a CD, put it in the BD drive, but it just spit it out.

(Haven't tried with the USB as I don't have a flash drive right now)

Anyone get it to work?

Tried with a USB, plugged it in with no disc inside, and guess what? Nothing happens. Tried fiddling around with the setup options but I have no idea what I'm doing wrong.

Anyone get this to work?

And by the way, pretty shitty machine I got. BDs and DVDs freeze frequently that I have to turn off and on the machine to get it out, and now, it's rare for the discs to even boot to the main menu screen! I've only had it less than a week, and it's pretty useless, as I've had trouble with almost every disc.

I have the same playback issues with my 799. It's a piece of shit and I've only had it for 6 months. It barely plays anything anymore aside from DVDs. And I've had no luck reaching Momitsu for warranty service.

I'm starting to look elsewhere for a better region-free option.

I loved it at first, but for the last few months it has been randomly skipping chapters on BDs only. They play fine, but only if you don't want to see parts of the movie. Really irritating. I'm wondering if the newer firmware would solve it, but then I'd have to flash back to the old firmware to play RB discs. Argh! I wish I could afford something better.

I replaced my old machine, but I've been unable to figure out how to install the old firmware to make it region free. (It had May 2010 firmware out of the box...) It's used as a spare in my workplace, but it really is a step down from the previous model.
