Sigh, I have seen a kuro with an ISF calibration, 3D adds more depth whether you like it or not.

An Isf calibrator projector on a proper screen is better than a Kuro. But im not going to sit an argue here because without seeing it for yourself its not worth explaning it. The guys who have them will know what im talking about.

I'm just afraid that with any new technology, it will be quite buggy at first, with many firmware updates and such to fix. I can wait when the technology become more polished, then I will join in on the fun. I do think 3D has a lot of potential......

I don't think calibrating my 1080i set would have much of an improvement and certainly wouldn't create a 3D image.

Your set up is amazing but in the end I seriously doubt its the same experience as seeing something real 3D. Yes blu ray and and a great set (I have watched blus on a friends 60" Elite) creates an excellent picture with more clarity and defined depth but it does not separate the picture and DOF the same as real 3D.

yes lots of people are still getting headaches even with the new 3D tchnology. If you have to wear glasses even at home it will be just a fad.

Kind of like florescent lights? I would really like to know how 3D can be done w/o glasses on... sounds to me people think the holo deck is in the near future.

im just wondering how its gonna work on off axis viewing. If you have to wear 3d glasses, might as well count out most older people and people who have to wear glasses already.

My wife wears glasses and has no issue wearing the new glasses in the theatre over them, now depending on the style of your eyeglasses I could see this being different for some people.

Do we need a thread to say, "I don't like 3D"?

I don't like broccoli. If I don't want it - I don't eat it.

There are 2D versions available in theaters - no one is being forced to watch 3D - and 3D in home most likely won't be catching on for quite some time.

Personally, I enjoy seeing the big action movies in 3D in the theater. Really looking forward to the new Tron in 3D. Don't need to have it in my home. Even with a 65" screen - just wouldn't be the same.

I do think it's silly that people say 3D won't catch on because "they personally" get headaches.

I'm amused that there's people who hate 3-D with a passion and want to make sure everyone knows about it. I'm equally amused that those same people think they have no choice but to accept 3-D. I thought that as a consumer you had a choice to, you know, consume what you want. Apparently not all of a sudden? You people are weird.

Yes those who do not like something are so weird. I wonder if they are as weird as those who like the thing they don't like?

Like starting 20 threads in order to claim their love of a movie maybe? Just wondering?

The thing is, you're hating on something that's inevitable. The irony is that this is a board dedicated to the future of movie tech, yet there are people who are against future tech that they themselves have the option to completely ignore. It would be hypocritical to advocate for blu-ray tech and then turn around and say "hey wait, stop innovating you guys!"

Welp.. get used to it; at least in theaters. I don't see it going anywhere. I only see the 3D image quality being improved and more and more movies being in 3D. At home, the average screen is so small that I can see it being pretty stupid. I'm curious to see how it will look on my 61".

Personally, I thought Avatar in 3D was freaking awesome. And I can't wait to go see it in IMAX 3D. I thought the picture quality was going to be way worse. Instead I was completely immersed and was blown away by everything.

I can see why people have seen the movie more than 3 times.

3D is not an improvement, it's being sold by Hollywood as an improvement but it's not one. It's a gimmick, it's a shinny little toys they can use to make ordinary movies into billion dollars festival.

I have no problem that some want to love and can't wait for 3D, it's all good for them and I am quite happy for them. Is it possible however for me to not enjoy 3D without being called weird, or is that too much too ask?

For me 3D as always been nothing more then a gimmick by filmmaker to dress up ordinary movies. The recent buzz with Avatar is a perfect example. This movie is very fun but there is not much there, it's ordinary, nothing different that as not been done 100 times before. You could even see it in the comments from the hard core fans of the film "you have to see it in 3D" almost as if they actualy know the movie is very ordinary and there is just the gimmick of 3D to make it interesting.
+1 I saw Avatar in 3D because it's the kind of movie you see in 3D. That is, the most "important" part of the movie is the visual element. Like you said, althought the story is compelling, it's been done several times before. The characters are two-dimensional (hehe) stereotypes, so there's nothing particularly arresting there. It comes down to the visuals, and when your movie relies that heavily on visuals it will be great for exactly as long as the technology used to make it remains cutting edge. Once something newer comes out Avatar will be in the "outdated" dust bin.

3D has been tried in the past. It fizzled out in the 50s and 80s because when the novelty wears off you realize that, while sometimes stunning, it doesn't really add much to the movie. I will pay more for a ticket to a 3D presentation if I think a movie will benefit, but the fact is most of the movies I like wouldn't.

Yeah, but now I have to wait an extra YEAR to see The Cabin in the Woods because they wanted to integrate 3D into it. So in a way, they're forcing me to wait longer to see it. And the only way I'll see it is in 2D

That is what I see happening more and more. Many producers and directors will turn to 3D now very likely with the killing Avatard is doing at the box office. Avatar is fun but not that great and the 3D is just the gimmick it needed to make it popular. So now we must have everyhting in 3D.
