Not a huge spoiler but in the movie The Cooler with Alec Baldwin a guy I was working with kept talking about how good it was and what a badass Baldwin was. I told him not to say anything more because I really wanted to see it. So he says o.k., but this part is crazy when he
[Show spoiler] kicks the pregnant girl in the stomach, but she's not really pregnant
.

Really dude?! So the whole time I'm watching it all the suspense of what was going to happen was gone. It didn't ruin the whole movie but took away a good bit of drama for me.

I really, really, really hate when people do that but I actually did this to someone not too long ago. Someone asked me about The Others and the way it was being said, I thought they had seen the movie. So, I interrupted and blurted out a crucial plot point when actually, they hadn't even seen the movie yet. They still rented the movie but I kind of ruined it for them. I still can't believe I did that especially when I consider how much I hate it when someone does that sort of thing to me.

While I was at work today, I had to goto a whole different part of the store because somebody decided to talk about Law Abiding Citizen and the ending. I haven't seen the movie yet and I got a little pissed that they would just openly talk about the movie's ending. Luckily, I got away before anything major was spoiled. It's the same person that has already spoiled a major plot point for Eclipse because she's already read the books, but luckily that's the only thing she told me.

After years of hype and restricting my time on forums in the days leading up, the DAY I was going to see The Dark Knight somebody posted on the Rotten Tomatoes board in the subject heading...

"The movie was good until
[Show spoiler]The Joker died!"

Thankfully, they were wrong, but I thought I had the movie spoiled for me. Which was also odd because Nolan has been quoted somewhere as saying
[Show spoiler]one mistake Tim Burton made was killing The Joker.

On topic, but in reverse.

I had a very dear friend save me from a spoiler.

I had never seen Terminator and was on my way to see T2 in the theater. My friend told me to STOP, Go rent T1, dont listen to anyone, THEN go see T2 tomorrow.

Needless to say my T1-T2 experience was greatly enhanced because of his recommendation.

That friend saved you from 20 years of great movie-making torture! You probably would never have looked at those movies (or 3 and Salvation) the same if you had seen them in reverse.

Kinda like when I wanted to see Alien 3 in 1993(?) and someone told me to watch 1 and 2 first. Great friends to bail us out. I wish that same friend had told me to skip Alien: Resurrection.

Yeah, and Alien 3 is a throw away as well.

What's the big deal guys? When you watch a movie the second or third time you already know what the ending is anyways.

My answer is always 'Just watch'.

+1 about someone beating you to the ending
Oh man... I have a friend who does this almost every time I show him a movie he hasn't seen yet. He thinks he's so clever when he can predict the unfolding plot and always looks to me for validation. It gets frustrating getting asked a bunch of questions, knowing that any answer can/will change his perception of the film. I just don't understand why people do this. If you want to discuss the movie, that's fine, but there's a time and place for that. During the film is not the time/place.

So I totally agree with you here... just watch the movie -- you'll figure it out on your own.

Not a huge dissapointment but the surprise appearance of a well known actor in zombieland was ruined for me thanks to reading an article in a well known movie magazine, the article wasn't even about the movie!!
Some people wait for the dvd you know!

If the ending or any part is spoiled you lose the experience. I'll never forget the first time I saw Empire. That's something that I would never want to take away from somebody else. The journey to get somewhere is usually as much fun, if not more fun, than the actual destination. Like a great man once said "I like to go in frrrrrrrrrrrressssssssh!"

Vegeta88 why didn't you want everybody to use spoiler tags?

Kind of annoyingly ironic isn't it?

Some A-hole on here ruined the ending of Gran Torino for me. And then the moron couldn't understand why I was so pissed off at them.

... I don't know. I'm pretty sure I had a reason when I started the thread. Yes it is ironic. Maybe I was thinking that a poster can actually put the spoiler of the film in the post or you could just say who and how a movie was spoiled for you

Just dropped in to say I love the name change to the thread title because I have specifically avoided this thread because I knew during the stories being told it would spoil that movie for me if I haven't seen it yet!

When I was walking out of Star Trek someone next to me was talking with his friends very loudly going by the line waiting for the next show and he said
[Show spoiler]I can't believe they destroyed Vulcan a hour in.

Blu-ray.com is a fairly perfect site, aside from there not being any spoiler rules. Since the website pertains to movies and TV shows, IMO there should be one.

Anyways, to add my story to the thread, a good friend of mine ruined the ending to the Harry Potter movies/books for me. Here's the thing, I have been watching Harry Potter since the beginning. I've never been a huge fan, but they grew on me, and by now I'm enthralled in the ongoing tale. For a person to be into a series for a decade and then suddenly have somebody spoil the ending for you in a split second, well, needless to say I was pissed. I looked over, shocked, and said "I really, really didn't want to know that." Then he continued laying out the storyline of the last book! I shouted "SHUT UP!"

He still thinks I was the one who was wrong for saying shut up.... It sucks how, these days, when you meet a person, you need to specify that you don't want them spoiling movies or TV shows.

Yep. That was the trick to being... well, tricked by the Sixth Sense. Not knowing there was a twist ending. The first time I saw that movie, I had no idea there was going to be a twist ending. I just took the story at face value. So when that reveal came at the end, it blew me away. But just about everyone I know who went into it knowing there was this "amazing twist ending" involved were able to figure it out. Sometimes even the most cryptic comments can spoil a movie for someone.

It's not a movie (or rather, wasn't at the time) but the day that the Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince book came out a few years ago, some idiot actually started a thread on a completely unrelated message board that said
[Show spoiler]WHAT DOES SNAPE KILLED DUMBLEDORE MEAN?
. Quite a few ticked off people that day, myself among them. Trolls are a worthless bunch of sad individuals.
