Both sites are linked in cdzie1's sig over on AVS. If you look at his public profile, he lists himself as a web developer. No geographic info, though.

Coincidence?

A rather different situation. General computing offers many many niches. Apple v. MS, which is best for:

Web server
Web surfing
Enterprise database
Word processing
Desktop publishing
Spreadsheet
Art
etc.

Even console/portable gaming have sufficient franchise exclusive games to permit two or more incompatible consoles.

HD and BD are basically single purpose computing devices: HD movie disc players. There is no identifiable niche (save "I hate Sony", which seems to be the sole basis for this farce war to continue) as a basis for two incompatible products existing.

OK-- I know the answers to most of the claims on that site, and it is a bit deceitful on some points, but what about the claim that Profile 1.1 and 2.0 will render the expensive hardware of early adopters obsolete?

That was the largest load of crap ever! ! ! ! ! ! Are you kidding me. Where do they get their info from the devil? lol Not even worth the time spent reading it. If they are going to disrespect Blu they should at least have a complete website and not just some wak picture that a 3rd grader in Miami could put together. COME ON!!!!

Thumbs up In defense of firmware updates....

I watched the whole video in order to make a sound judgement. Remember the old adage that you can't judge a book by it's cover. Unless it is the Bible.

I too own POTC: 1 and 2. Yes, it took a long time for part one to load. Yes, I had to manually skip the preview stuff. It was pretty annoying in that sense. I never tried the game. HOWEVER, I have the Sony BDP-S300 with 2.0 firmware. So, I didn't suffer nearly as much wait time as this guy did in his video. I think his firmare update was 1.60.

Some people may balk at the idea of having to do firmware updates because they expect to buy a "finished" product. Well, I have some news for you, no product out there is ever truly finished. I rebuild pc's fairly regular on my job and the first thing I do is upgrade the BIOS. Lo and behold there is hardly a machine that did NOT have an upgrade available - even a miniscule one.

Look at this way, either you upgrade the firmware, or you can live with your old $1000 player which can not play your new $30 movie. I trust in the new firmware updates to further improve performance. Ex: Did wonders for my Plextor DVD burner.

In short, they can't anticipate all the problems new titles will bring. Firmware updates will continue to be a monotonous or exciting part of life - depending on how you view it. Just be glad it can be done via software, and not by pulling a chip like the old days! My personal experience is that firmware updates are generally good news. I hope the next Sony firmware update improves performance even more.

The thing is, what is the solution offered for many having problems with HD DVD combos? Make sure you have the latest firmware upgrade.

Apparently it's rediculous to expect consumers to upgrade their firmware for Blu-ray, but totally acceptable to expect consumers to upgraded their firmware for HD DVD.

Hypocrites. And another example of the morally and intellectually bankrupt campaign that MS-Toshiba is waging.

This format war is akin to political mud slinging. There is a saying called "muddy the waters". If someone calls you a liar, you call them a liar right back. Pretty soon, you can't tell who the actual liar is because they both claim it. Then again, aren't all politicians liars?

Politics also works on this principle. "If you repeat something often enough, people begin to believe it is true." Case in point... no flaming please because any smart person can see this is true.. Evolutionism is the ONLY science to claim what they believe is true without any tangible evidence to back it up. What about those bones of our ancestors you say? Proven fakes and frauds decades ago! PBS special revealed Piltdown man was a forgery. Yet, they now disclaim that as evidence and still claim the existence of a Piltdown man as truth. WITH NO BONES TO BACK IT UP!

PLEASE, do not go off topic and get this thread locked. That was just an example to show what a dirty game this format war really has become.

The who-is registration doesn't add up. The registrant and admin details are usually supposed to be that of the customer who has purchased the domain. The tech details are reserved for the company who provided the domain reg services for the customer.

So it seems to me that either

a) 1and1 were paid to register & create these websites for a customer who wished to remain anonymous (hmmm - who would do such a thing?)

or

b) 1and1 have a disgruntled anti-bluray employee who is making use of some free services from his/her employer

proxy800676@1and1-private-registration.com

The whole thing is hidden behind this 1and1's anon registration process. Even e-mailing the person is through proxy.

Better yet, how 'bout a site called "Say-YES-To-Bluray". Just the facts without a mention of HDVD.

Doesn't this whole site do that?

But yes, maybe a seperate page to extoll the virtures of blu while decrying HD-DUD. Lot easier than reading pages of this stuff.
