In time I will probably upgrade all the titles if/when they hit blu, regardless if there are fewer extras. If the blu has fewer extras I will just hang onto the dvd.

Well, I can tell you that I certainly will and I will continue to avoid the theatrical cuts like the plague.

for me comedies and most dramas don't rate a Blu-ray burn. They are simply character driven stories where the pan & scan version works fine.

Sci-fi/action/adventure and some horror films need the full letterbox/widescreen scope to bring the dramatic feeling home. I enjoy watching the backgrounds and detail of the production in these films.

I still purchase dvd's from Walmart's $5 area with an occasional $7.50 purchase. Blu-Ray purchases are reserved for special films I want to replace in my collection Most recent updates include "The Phantom", "Relic" and "Dark City". All three for under $10 each.

Wallmart has recently dropped blu pricing and carry a slew of titles for $15 or less.

What I would like to see on Blu ...

* Waterworld: Director's cut (have it on dvd - burned from VHS)
* Robinson Crusoe on Mars - Not even a dvd of this (burned from VHS copy - from laserdisc master)
* Stalag 17 (last dvd release was nice though)
* The Warriors (orginal and directors cut)
* Three Muskateers (charlie shee/kiefer Sutherland version)
* Real Genius (exception to the comedy comment above)
* The Punisher (first one w/ Dolph Lungren)
* Crying Freeman (starring Mark Dacascos)
* Song of the South ( disney flick )
* Phantom of the Paradise (1974 - starring Paul Williams)
* Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park ( Hanna Barbara special movie starring KISS.
* Alien - (with 10min of missing footage restored. was contained in laserdisc boxed set. Have edited dvd with footage restored - awesome)
* My Science Project (starring John Stockwell )
* Arnold Schwartzenegger collection ( all his films in one "decently" priced boxed set - Quality remasters - not like running man and terminator blu quality )
* Soldier (starring Kurt Russell)
* Down Periscope ( starring Kelsey Grammer)

TV Mini-Series

* Creature (1998 - starring Craig T. Nelson & Kim Cattral - creature effects by stan winston)
* Something is Out There (1988- special effects by Rick Baker - starring Joe Cortese & Maryam D'abo)
* Goliath Awaits (1981 - starring Mark Harmon, Christopher Lee, Emma Samms)
* Shogun (1980 - starring Richard Chamberlain)

Day 1 purchase for me no matter what the price. The Theatatrical versions are great but the Extended version you get so much more movie. I'll take all of the Lord of the Rings I can get

Night Watch.

The dvd looks and sounds incredible anyway. Unfortunately, they didn't use the "active" subtitles for the Blu. To me they are an integral part of the whole Night Watch experience.

Generally it'll be anything that doesn't really upgrade the picture or has the same or fewer extras on it. Don't really buy DVD's anymore, only if they are not availible on Blu, but if its not what I'd count as a worthy upgrade then I just pass. Or rent.

I couldn't wait, so I went ahead and bought the Theatrical, but I'm definitely picking up the Extended the moment it's released.

I'm the opposite. I won't buy the theatricals on blu-ray, they are no replacement for the excellent EE DVDs.

Also, I won't be replacing any of the crappy DVDs that people gave me, that I don't watch. Other than that, I'll replace everything as they become available. Hell, I still buy DVDs now, that I will replace on Blu as soon as I can, (Peckinpah movies, 'Network', for some recent examples).

Don't short-change yourself -- B & W looks fantastic on Blu-ray. Check out Casablanca, It's A Wonderful Life, A Christmas Carol, The Third Man or (from the reviews it's getting) Psycho.

And as far as TV goes -- the difference on the Star Trek (TOS) Blu-rays was night & day next to the DVDs.

Any movie that I have on DVD and don't like too much anymore. Otherwise, if I want it in my collection, I'll just wait for the price to hit rock bottom and then go for it. Or I'll buy it used on eBay. That way I'm getting them for around $9 on eBay in mint condition since I already have the DVD version.
Now that I hear DTS-HD tracks, DolbyTrue HD tracks, and PCM tracks, I can't turn back to Dolby Digital. DTS is alright, but Dolby Digital seems to be softer than DTS during many of the DVD's I've tested.
Either way, I've become an audio snob haha. I love seeing my processor saying HD AUDIO.

Default Older Black and White movies

I have a lot of older Black and White movies from the 20's,30's and 40 that will not be replaced. I have seen some older movies such as the Grapes of Wrath and Casablanca in HD and although there is a slight improvement in PQ I don't think its enough to warrant replacing them. Generally the source material of these earlier films do not have the same level of detail as films made from the 50's and onwards as is such the HD medium doesn't reveal anything more, if anything grain simply becomes more noticeable.
