I was very excited until I saw it will only be in 3D, pretty sure now that I'll only go see it in theatres now if someone else pays.

I thought the movie was good once. But honestly I don't see paying more money to see it for 8 more minutes of footage...Just seems a little ridiculous. At least in my opinion. I'm sure some people will love it, but I just don't see the point unfortunately. I'll wait for the blu ray

The movie actually hasn't left theaters yet (if it doesn't before then it won't technically be a re-release )

Its still playing in 9 U.S. theaters and made about $6,000 yesterday.

Dang really?! It was still playing in one of the theaters around here when the blu ray came out, but it's since left. I wasn't aware if was still playing in theaters anywhere. That's interesting. Thanks for the update Diesel. It really wouldn't be a rerelease if it never left

9 theatres? 51 days, it'll definitely be gone from US theatres by then, at least I think so.

If you're shocked that they are only showing 8 more mins, that's because Imax reels can only hold so much footage.

I had heard it was 6 more minutes, 8 more is a nice surprise. Now I wait to find out when the Avatar re-release hits blu-ray so I can decide what to do with the copy I have now.

I'm not shocked at all. I know IMAX reels can't hold more than a certain amount of film, I'm just really not understanding why they just don't release the extra 8 minutes on the blu. Why go to all the trouble for a re-release? I wonder how much it will make...

Fox and Cameron both saw how much money it's already made but honestly with the blu-ray out, I can't see this re-release doing better than maybe another $100,000,000, if that.

See, that's what I'm thinking too. That's why I'm wondering why they just don't do a new blu release, since there is one coming out in November anyway, at least I was under that impression. I just see the whole thing as more of a cash grab...

The movie was taken off cinemas not because it wasn't making any money but because cinemas had to take it off to screen Alice in Wonderland. Both the studio and Cameron believe that there are still people who are interested in seeing Avatar in 3D again (if they haven't already seen it before), hence the rerelease.

I'll probably go see it again, because it did look brilliant in 3D and each time I've watched my 2D Blu-ray I keep thinking it would be nice to see it again in 3D.

I know it's only an extra 8 minutes, but it's still a little more and would be interesting to see what the extra 8 minutes are about.

I'd give it a 4.5/5 actually, but since I find the whole movie entertaining, I chose 5/5. Sure it's not original, and the dialogue might've been dumb at times, but the movie didn't disappoint throughout.

I give the movie a 3 (for story/dialouge).

A lot of the dialouge is really bad. ("I have a gun too b!tch")

I laughed out loud in the theater when I heard them call the mineral "Unobtainium".

A lot of the dialouge is very juvenile. And while I understand we're dealing with marines - it all just felt very 80's action movie dialouge to me.

Technically however, I give it a 5. It really shows that movies can now give a fairly realistic version of anything a person can imagine. Some of the visuals here are like epic paintings. A great achievement visually.

Just curious gandalf, what do you have against 3D? I've seen you in the Transformers 3 thread addamently opposing 3D. Which is fine, I respect your opinion i'm just curious as to why you aren't on the bandwagon

I already wear glasses so I don't like putting on another pair just to watch a movie. Also it tends to get distracting during a movie and then it becomes annoying. Oh yeah and I don't like paying extra money just to see a movie in 3D when I don't want to see it in 3D.

I think the reason they are doing this re-release is because Jim 'n Friends want this movie to cross the 3 billion dollar mark. It's already at 2.7 billion worldwide so another $300,000,000 shouldn't be that hard to fathom, especially considering that August is a traditionally weak period for new theatrical releases

Fair enough lol, to each their own. And I don't blame you for not wanting to pay extra, some of these 3D prices are getting out of hand. I know a guy who payed $22 to see Toy Story 3 in IMAX 3D. You can buy the movie for that!!
