Default Avatar Review Thread Part II (SPOILERS for Theatrical and Special Editions)

Started a second Avatar Review thread so we could have a poll. and add the results to the https://forum.blu-ray.com/movies/139...esomeness.html

More than ten years in the making, Avatar marks Cameron's return to feature directing since helming 1997's Titanic. WETA Digital, renowned for its work in "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy and King Kong, will incorporate new intuitive CGI technologies to transform the environments and characters into photorealistic 3D imagery that will transport the audience into the alien world rich with imaginative vistas, creatures and characters. The film was released in IMAX 3D simultaneously with the theatrical release on December 18, 2009.

I give it a 3/5. It's a great 3D experience, but the length of the film can really make it drag on for me. I mean 2 hours 45 minutes is a long time. If it was about 2 hours, I could enjoy it more.

I gave it five . . . the story isn't the most original, but on technical merits and pure entertainment, I had to give it five.

I voted 5 stars. It's not my favorite movie by any means, but I personally think it has the replay value and the visual prowess for 5 stars.

I'd give it a 3/5. It was amazing visually but the story was kind of bland.

I'd say 4.

But knowing what happened in the Iron-man thread, there's going to be quite a few folks that will rate it before having seen it.

I gave it a 3/5. The story was just a bunch of other stories mashed together but the visuals and 3d were awesome.

God Avatar must be some movie to have this much attention to it. I gave it five stars. Why watch any other movie? I've seen perfection.

Gave it a 5 of 5. LOVED it the 1st time (Opening Night in IMAX 3D!!), & the 2 subsequent showings after ("Real-D 3D", & IMAX 3D again, but in a Converted theater). Watched it once on Bluray & the re-watchability factor still rates high IMO. BEYOND BEAUTIFUL Imagery, story is pretty good if not the "most" original to be fair, acting & cast is better than most will lead you to believe (if you Haven't seen it, that is), EFX are very impressive, Audio is a Tick away from being a Grand Slam (only becuz' I Love me some over-the-top Hard-Hitting Bash in you in the face LFE!!) but still Reference Quality overall. Visually it's probably the most amazing film you'll see for a long time. I ordered the bluray for a friend who let me keep it for a couple weeks to watch once or twice, as a friend at my job offered to buy the DVD that came with it for $10 (in effect making my purchase price under $9 for the Bluray ). Personally, I want to see the whole Enchilada, so I'm waiting for November 2010 for the "Ultimate 4-Disc Edition" to purchase.

That's what I was going to say before scrolling down and seeing you beat me to the punch

Upon first viewing of the movie back in December I gave it either a 4.5 or a 5.

But after watching it a few times on blu-ray I decided a while back that my official rating was a 4/5.

After my second theatrical viewing I said it was my favorite movie of the year, but after seeing it 5 times now it is down to about 5th for 2009 (behind Star Trek, Terminator Salvation, Taken and Fast&Furious). Its neck and neck with State of Play though.

3 stars.

Very nice to watch and listen too, but great AQ and PQ do not make a mediocre film great. My Kids love it which is why I bought it.
