Well Universal decided to boycott me, so I don't buy any of their movies at all until they start supporting Blu-Ray. It is Blu or nothing at all!

Around my household, if it is a movie I want, i ignore it and wait til the day it is released on blu. If the film is something that my little girl wants, i'll reluctantly buy it. If the movie is an off the wall title that she wants, we rent it.

+1. There are way too many Blu-ray releases to purchase without worrying about Universal or Paramount.

Yep its a tough decision to make with universal so anti-red. Back to the future and jurassic park would be good sellers. We will see what happens if universal ever goes Blu.

I think we're beginning to see a clear consensus, and that's if it's not on Blu, it's not in our collections. As I've said before, I only buy SD DVDs for TV shows (Simpsons) that I've been collecting for years. But just to throw some numbers out there, you can see from my sig how many SD DVDs and Blu-rays I already own; well here's one more number for you: 97. That's how many Blu-rays I have on my wishlist under my DVD Profiler. So needless to say, I'm not hurting for any Paramount or Universal titles anytime soon. If I'm jonesing for a new movie to watch, there's 97 others already on the list to buy...

Not every movie needs to be in HD for me, and I'll rebuy the ones that I want in HD when they're released on Blu Ray. My wife wanted Stardust for Christmas, so I got it for her and when it comes out on Blu Ray I'll buy it again.

I won't buy an HD-DVD player though, I can wait until the films I want are on Blu.

I would have to agree 99 percent, only 1 percent left over is I wouldn't buy Stardust period :-P

If it doesnt come out on Blu... I dont buy it, I dont rent it, and I dont borrow it.

The ONLY acception I make is when there is a new stand up comedy dvd I want or a TV show that never made it to blu...

i havent read the answers back to you and to your topic, but i would like share my idea with you.Honestly i'm not interested in DVD anymore and even i'm too much excited to watch some of my favourites universal movies in high Definition they can wait because i'm busy on the other side enjoying my Blu-Side with my favourites movies.Once Universal get back to the track and convinced themselves what a big mistake they did .i guess i can go back and begins enjoying again Universal in Blu.but for the time being too many movies to catch on Blu.I dont care about HD-DVD and i dont care about anything lower in superiority against BD

I will not be buying, renting, or otherwise, any Paramount/Universal/Dreamworks DVD's until they start making Blu-rays, period.

Going to go with the consensus here.

If it's not on Blu, I haven't been buying it -- unless of course it's some obscure Anime that my fiance wants on DVD. If it's a title for myself, then I simply will wait until it's on Blu.

Universal for the moment is dead to me as they haven't released a 'must have' movie for me in quite a while on DVD or in the Theater. Besides, all the Universal movies that are must haves -- I already have on DVD. If they do release something that I must watch -- I'll rent it on DVD.

Paramount is the same thing, as the only must haves (Star Trek or Hunt for Red October) I own again on DVD. But the same with Universal, they haven't released a must have movie for me in quite a while.

I'm looking past this format war, and actually will cautiously approach anything Universal releases on Blu for at least the first year. I have a feeling anything released on Blu by them will be the horrible VC-1 ports they've been tossing out for HD-DVD lately. Unless the reviews are high quality with high bitrate AVC encodes with TrueHD or PCM, count me out.

Paramount I'll approach cautiously as well, but I think they have some AVC encodes optimized for Blu sitting in the vault. We'll see, but I think they are more likely to release quality long before Universal finally gets fully on board the boat.

I won't watch anything in SD if it is available in HD. If it is not on blu I will watch it on my Direct TV HD PPV or one of the movie channels I get. If I want ot own it I will wait. All good things will come to Blu.

There are still so many movies I have not seen on Blu, and there are many more released every month. I don't think it really matters if I miss a few here and there from HD-DVD. It hurts HD-DVD players more if they are exclusively sided.

I already had most of the Universal movies I want on DVD (many in PAL DVD so I upconvert those from 576 instead of 480) and very interestingly last Xmas I found several Universal DVD box sets of the ones I didn't have that had come out in Hd DVD, with the price coming to 4 bucks per movie.

I still have a backlog of about a hundred WB/Sony/Disney/MGM/Paramount/Fox/Lions Gate/New Line Blu-rays to watch in their entirety (i spot checked them for image quality when I got them ) from my nearing 400 BD collection, so I'm in no hurry

I WILL NEVER BUY HD-DVD I WILL WAIT FOR THEM TO GO BLU ONLY. AND WILL NOT RENT NOR BUY ANYTHING FROM A STUDIO THAT DOES NOT SUPPORT BLU-Ray

REMEMBER BLU-RAY IS THE ONLY TRUE HIGH DEF FORMAT. HD-dvd IS A CHEAP IMATATION.

For myself, since June I've gone almost exclusively to Blu-ray for my non-anime title purchases. As near as I can figure I've purchased only 3 SD-DVD movie titles (Transformers, Shrek 3, Stardust) and these were purchased the first week they were out with "loss-leader" pricing.

There are a number of titles that are currently exclusive to HD-DVD that I am very interested in getting in high-def. However, my situation is that with the exception of a few new day-and-date new title purchases, most of my upcoming high-def purchases will be "upgrading" my movie library from SD-DVD to Blu-ray.

But with the recent BOGO's and other purchasing deals, I've quite a number of movies that are unopened and waiting to be watched. I'm in no rush to go out and buy a HD-DVD player to be able to watch a few movies that I already had purchased before in SD.

Buy the book. The book is awesome. They should totally adapt it into a movie one day.
