Default For true Blu-ray supporters... question!

I admire all true blue supporters as I am dual format supported. My question is what do you do for releases on Universal. I just got Kingdom on HD-DVD and would you guys just buy the SD-DVD or not even bother.? I am sure their are alot of universal titles you would love to get your hands on but you cant. I know HD-DVD have no region imports, but blu not the case.

I am not praising HD-DVD just asking what blu only supporters do?

I have purchased some HD DVDs, but I've been renting since Black Friday and will continue. I do not want to put potentially more good money in after bad.

I am holding off on any red purchases until @ least 2Q of next year.

I don't rent it or buy it in SD.
I'll simply hold onto my money for when Universal/Paramount/Dreamworks is ready to take it from me.
I'm perfectly ready and willing to fork over cash to them, but I guess they don't want it

Well, for starters, be prepared for the backlash from your question. I don't think you have any ill-intentions, but you've been on here long enough to know they're coming. That said, ignore them, and for anyone else that reads this: please don't go there.

I've said it before, and I think it still bears repeating: With each passing day we will have more and more former red-exclusive members joining the site. Questions such as these are natural to ask, and I truly believe the OP is asking just out of curiosity. GIVE HIM THE BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT!

Now, to answer your question: I personally refrain from buying titles if they're not available on Blu-ray. The only exceptions (for now) are TV series (big Simpsons fan) that I've already been collecting for years. I think you will find that for just about any Blu-ray fan, we honestly believe that it will be the next generation format, and that ultimately the movies that we want will be released on Blu-ray. I for one am willing to wait for them.

As far as buying the SD DVD goes, I just can't do it. Not even Transformers (yes, I enjoyed it and want to add it to my collection). It just doesn't look as good as Hi-def, even with the up-convert.

Hope this answered your question!

Default Have you heard of Cable?

While it's not BRay quality, I pay $5.99 to watch it in 1080i on-demand style...if the movie is worth it...so far, I can name one movie that is DUD exclusive that I paid to watch over cable...

But honestly, I can think of one or two movies only that are DUD exclusive that I would buy when they are released on BRay...

If a movie isn't on blu-ray format, and I REALLY want to see it-
I'll rent it on standard DVD.

Until this format battle is over, I'm not going to prolong it by going "purple"

Right now I am strictly Blu. Yes there are many titles that I would like that are not offered on Blu-ray (Bourne and Transformers). I haven't bought an SD-DVD since before PS3 came out because I new I would be a Blu supporter. Most of the time when I watch a movie in SD I usually end up turning it off right away because I am used to HD. I will also not waste my money on HD-DUD I would probably get a bigger thrill by burning my money than wasting it on HD-DUD.

I buy blu rays only, my wife is getting sick of this war already! I refuse to rent or buy SD if there are on HD DUD version, I SUPPORT, I repeat, I SUPPORT BLU-RAY all the way until HD DUD is dead, gone and gone.

But, i will buy wife her tv shows on DVD, only for her collection not mine. She loves Will and Grace and i got her season 7 for xmas.

Your comments on region coding show several misconceptions: Blu-ray does not require region coding, it just makes it possible for companies who want to impliment it. Most catalog titles have not been region coded on Blu-ray, which is why several people imported The Rock (for example) from the UK prior to it's release here in the the U.S.

So some Universal and Paramount titles are indeed available when released on Blu-ray from other companies over-seas. The advantage of having region-coding possible is that new releases (e.g. Harispray and Rush Hour 3) that are still in international release can be released in the U.S. sooner without jeaporadizing the theatrical release. Also, Disney, which uses a timed "vault" release format for their classics will not release their titles without region-coding.

Obviously there are many Universal and Paramount titles exclusive in world wide release, but the same is true in reverse for HD DVD supporters. Region coding, however, makes more titles available on Blu-ray, not fewer.

I normally don't buy Universal titles at all now, just waiting for the Blu-reay versions. I don't buy Paramount period after what they did. BTW, I am technically format-neutral capable, in that I own an A1, but I stopped wasting my money on HD DVDs almost a year ago (I think I have 21 or so). I guess if there was something I couldn't live without seeing in HD I could join netflix and rent it on HD DVD, but it hasn't come up yet. I doubt it will matter much in the next year...

I also just rent the SD-DVD if I really want to see it.. but honestly, the only movie I've really wanted to see that wasn't on Blu lately was The Bourne Ultimatum... I rented it and now I don't really have any movies that I miss.

I can survive without Universal/Paramount releases until they come out on Blu-ray. No need for me to rent or buy on SD, I don't get anything on DVD anymore, I have been spoiled by BD.
