Yep. Raiders and the opening set piece of Temple (which was excised from Raiders) are the good stuff. The rest of the series can wander off into the woods.

Temple gets better with age. It's one of those things... with movies becoming the way that they are - full of CG, OTT, moving further away from grit and 'realism' - I'm warming up to old-school movies a lot more than I used to. There's just more magic to them.

Sequels like RoboCop 2 and Predator 2 aren't well-liked. But I like them both watching them in 2019. They ain't perfect, but the old-school disposition gives them something special. Ditto for Temple of Doom. The locations are real, the sets are real... there's just more danger.

The other news I can confirm about this set is that Senior Spielbergo is personally supervising all of the new masters. Should be a good one.

To be fair, Raiders' edits were incredibly minor and were purely to fix goofs.

Love the series. It’s one of my favorite franchises. Hopefully, they do the picture quality justice and that the UHD doesn’t bring out the worst in the special effects department. Not a day “one”, but a day “when I find out they’ve met the above criteria” for me. I’m finding that I have too many duplicate/useless discs (3D+DVD, 4K+BLU, Target editions) to invest in anything that doesn’t improve leaps and bounds on what I already have.

If they address the color issue of the new Raiders master being totally revisionist and drop the awful new soundmix in favor of having all the theatrical audio tracks-mono, Dolby stereo and 70mm-AND replace the original effects and errors like the snake reflection then I'll be very happy. Currently I still run the 1991 Letterbox Laserdisc because it has the untouched film and the best soundmix of any release IMO.

And new scans for Temple and Crusade are a must since the old ones are still very tied to video masters in terms of timing and fine detail as they are indeed older master largely.

Prepare for disappointment.

I don't want to open the can of worms about the color timing on Raiders, because I have old vintage books, Long-Playing Record with photo album...Raiders Blu looks like those photos. Doesn't look like the Laserdisc or the DVD, but everybody grew up with those versions, and those may not be accurate. I don't know, but Raiders' gold push and gritty grain looks like the film from my youth as preserved in my kiddo-land archives. I personally had no problem with it.

I'm looking forward to Temple of Doom in 4k HDR. Back in the VHS days, certain colors were hard for VHS and Laserdisc and tvs to tackle without blooming -- reds especially -- and Temple of Doom is a very, very red movie, intense reds throughout. Should be fun.

Seeing as Raiders is already a recent Spielberg-supervised 4K remaster, it's most likely going to be what is used for the UHD version. Temple of Doom and Last Crusade, however, those should definitely be new scans. We've had the same old HD masters for those films used since the 2003 DVD release (though they were really good for their time compared to a lot of other DVD-era masters).

Crystal Skull will be a 2K DI upscale-- that film, despite being shot on film, always had a weird artificial look to me, I think being down to some of the effects and cinematography. Not sure if a new HDR transfer will make this better or worse.

Yes, they were early Lowry Digital efforts. I must admit I've never really been a huge fan - they looked way too digital and "harsh", for want of a better description. The newer Raiders scan has it's detractors, but at least it looks filmic.

I'm the opposite; I have enjoyed RoboCop 2 since I was young.
Temple of Doom I enjoyed when young but as I've aged, my enjoyment of it has deteriorated. Definitely the weakest of the the three.
