Catch-22 deserves to be part of the Paramount Presents line. Now, Paramount thinking the same way is a completely different thing!

Some of my most wanted Paramount's would be:

Catch-22; Popeye; Hud; Bringing Out the Dead; Play It Again, Sam; King Kong (1976); Pretty Baby; Falling in Love ; Gung Ho (1986); Ordinary People; Looking for Mr. Goodbar

I realize that, for various reasons, from music rights to controversy, some of these titles aren't likely to happen anytime soon....

I want to like this film so bad! Chinatown is one of my top 20 all time favorite films. I've given The Two Jakes a couple tries but just couldn't get into it sadly. It just drags and drags. It's such a bummer that Polanski didn't return to direct and that The Two Jakes had such a troubled production which most likely didn't help the final product. I'll give it a third try (hopefully third time's a charm) before this blu ray comes out. I would've loved to have seen the Jake Gittes trilogy completed if Two Jakes would've been a success. Then again we wouldn't have the superb Who Framed Roger Rabbit? then!

The Two Jakes does have one of my all time favorite movie cover artworks though with it's original theatrical cover.

Did the old DVD have any special features? Should we expect anything here?

These were the special features on the Collector's Edition:

Quote:
* Featurette: Jack on Jakes
* Theatrical Trailer
I hope Paramount at least will port those.

And I really, really hope they don't use this cover! (Most likely they will)

They would have tried to arrest Polanski if he had come back.

I quite like this poster below, but agree that the original US theatrical poster would be best for the Blu-ray cover.

Robert Towne detests what happened with this film, so don’t expect him on a commentary or interview

Jack Nicholson and Harvey Keitel, the two Jakes, are two of my favorite actors ever.

I saw this in a theater when it was new. It suffered from the same thing "The Godfather- Part III" initially suffered from that same year.

Both were long awaited sequels to some of the 1970s' absolute greatest films from Paramount. The originals are masterpieces. These sequels were only good, so they got kicked around and completely dismissed as dreadful, ill-advised garbage, which is not actually the case. This is actually a good, well made and well acted film for grown-ups. It's just not AS great as "Chinatown". Just as "Godfather III"'s rep has grown over the years, I hope this finds more of an audience, too.

By the way, I have the recent "Atlantic City" and "On a Clear Day You Can See Forever" MOD blu's, and they look and sound very good.

We'd all like the best releases possible, but in this age, we need to be grateful to at least have the films out on physical blus at all, in still very good quality.
Godfather 3 suffered from the fact that it sucked.

Really happy to see this one coming. The cast is a killer, with great character performances from Madeleine Stowe, Meg Tilly, Ruben Blades, Eli Wallach, Frederic Forrest, Richard Farnsworth (who's having a great year on BD), David Keith, and the brilliant Tracey Walter. And of course the two Jakes - Nicholson & Keitel - are perfect. It's one of my favorite Keitel roles.

Obviously there's no way to escape the shadow of Chinatown, and it doesn't try. But I have found the film solidly entertaining several times over. And unlike Godfather III, at least Jake Gittes still seems like Jake Gittes.

I'm gonna assume Meg Tilly's wearing a wig - her forehead looks pretty large there

Preordered this on WowHD for dirt cheap the other day - 16AUD including postage

Cover isn't the greatest, but not the worst either. Overall, it's fine.

It will be nice to finally own this on HD. Love Keitel in this. Now, hopefully someone will release Bugsy soon.
