Is The Lake House a chick flick or what?

Like someone had mentioned earlier, the original Korean film, Il Mare is superior. But thats American remakes for you, it's rare if they turn out to be as good. Even still I didn't think the original was all that great either though.

Well, not sure why, but I recall liking this (I like the two stars and I'm a sucker for happy endings - since I didn't get one ). I'm pretty sure I still have the DVD around here somewhere - hence my question about whether the BD was actually an upgrade over the DVD. No point in spending money if it's not - but I'm not real hopeful of getting an answer.

It's not demo material,but the PQ is a significant upgrade,especially if your DVD copy is a full screen disc like mine was. I consider anything an upgrade from that. It looks better than DVD,but it's not the hugest of improvements. I suggest trying to get it for under $10 or looking for the triple feature of Time Travelers Wife,P.S. I love You that has it included.

Alas, the trilogy goes for $20-$25 right now (last May's $12 woulda been cool). I found my copy of Lakehouse - and it's WS! I'm gonna keep it out until the time is right. If I catch it cheap before that, I'll blind buy the BD. If not, I'll check out the DVD - at least until I decide I really want it. If so, I'll stop and order the BD right away. If you're gonna watch something, you should see it at it's best!

I like it. It's a good compromise movie for couples. There's the romantic angle, but also.a pseudo sci-fi angle too. It's a very zen kind of movie. Nothing happens at a fast pace in it, which might turn some off. I still need to check out the.original.

But you did finish it, so you get a gold star! I think, primarily, this film is made for romantic couples who know how hard it can be to find someone special (and are glad they did) & people who were never that lucky and wound up alone - but are happy to see someone else make it. But that's just a theory.

On that note I honestly preferred Sweet November as far as Keanu Reeves. I am not usually a fan of romantic films, but I always felt that one was good. Plus, Charlize is easier on the eyes than Bullock.

I could never get into that one - because I couldn't get past my memories of the original. I remember really liking the original, although I don't think I've ever seen it since it was in theaters (Sandy Dennis was great). Perhaps I'll see the Reeves version again someday, but that flick (both versions) is a totally different trip - it's a tragedy, she's dying, there's no hope. The Lake House is all about hope - hell, they change "reality". A romantic movie without hope is just a boring soap opera.

Eh, maybe. I think it’s palatable myself. I saw it with my then-fiancé as a date movie when we were just about to move in together. It was absolutely fine to my mind, no hate. Just not... outstanding.

We made the mistake of seeing Preminition together, another Bullock movie thinking we’d get more of the same. Ohhhhhhhh noooooooooo...

Total chick flick with a bit more for it than that. Liked it when I watched it back a few years wit my ex fiancee. But because she's an ex, the movie has been tarnished in my view and has become unwatchable.
