The PQ won't knock your socks off. You can thank New Line Productions for that, for using BD based DNR! The SQ especially during the intense action scenes was excellent.

However, I would rent it for now and wait for New Line to release a remastered version. Hey, New Line: hint, hint.

yes but the MOVIE part...you know..that requires directing and acting...sucked a lot more than narnia.

the issue here is that the VFX were actually quite good...too bad they were wasted on this movie.

I was under the impression that Christians, while maintaining and expressing their beliefs, at least have that basic tolerance for others.

I'm not trying to cause a fight here, and I respect your beliefs, your right to them, and your decision based on your faith to not purchase a film adaptation based on a book written by an atheist. However, I'd hope that you agree to the fact that atheists have just as much right as anyone else to express themselves artistically (as do muslims for that matter). The topic of this thread is in regards to the quality of the movie in general and on Blu-ray, not the religious or anti-religious sentiments of the source material or even that of this adaptation. I believe there is a thread for that sort of discussion on here already.

Now, to answer the question at hand. I bought this one blind, watched it, and have never read the book. I found it to be less than great. Not a bad movie by any stretch, but stacked up against Narnia (doesn't even come close to LOTR or the last three HPs), Narnia wins hands down in my book. Still it's not terrible and I don't completely regret buying it, but I kinda wish I had rented it first. Picture and sound quality is great though.

Great post!!!

I am a Christian, but, I am surprised how blindly some people can be lead around....sheeple comes to mind...

if believers think that Christianity and/or Catholicism haven't been warped by mans view of what the religion should be over the last 1800 years, then they are sadly mistaken...

its about Jesus, pure and simple...read his stories and you will see that it boils down to how you treat your fellow man and live your life...its not about judging...

but, thats it...I'm not getting into it any further..

Love everyone!! Open your heart! Listen to Bob Marley!!

The PQ and AQ are good, but the movie seemed very disjointed.

There is virtually no character development, and even the battle scenes were somewhat disappointing. I'm hoping for a director's/extended cut at some point or something. At any rate, maybe the sequels (if they do in fact do them as I've heard) will be better.

Yeah, the movie ended so abruptly I was rather disappointed. I realize that they were shooting for the whole trilogy thing, but they kind of picked a horrible spot to end it.

Yeah, character development was non-existent, and that final battle was edited really poorly and the action wasn't that great.

I really enjoyed Chronicles of Narnia, but not this movie. Somehow, it just felt much flatter to me, and was lacking in an exciting and dynamic storyline. The acting performances were also ho-hum to me, and I never really had feelings towards the outcome of the characters. This was a far cry from Narnia to me personally, as I didn't find it compelling or dynamic such as Narnia was before it. Actually, it reminded me of a cheap rip off between Harry Potter and Narnia, and failed to establish it's own identity.

There wasn't enough "oomph" to me, but there's some mildly entertaining spots. There just wasn't enough of those spots unfortunately, and the rest of film felt like a drab run through.

I was disappointed, because I really enjoy this type of genre.

I was promised polar bear fight scenes, and there were like 2.

Disappointing.

I thought the movie was a big let down. It seemed to go from point A to point B and so on without any emotional involvement, excitement, or build up. Ice Bears were cool sure(that wasn't a bad pun). But not cool enough to sustain the length of the film. The lead girl did a fine job and was really the only stand out that seemed to be invested in the movie. In the end I really did not feel excited to even see what happens next. Which is a shame because I had really looked forward to seeing it. Its not so much that it is an awful movie, but its just one of those movies you see and then forget about.

The production value was good and the bluray looked fantastic. The special effects I didn't really see as worthy of winning a Oscar. But if The Matrix bullet time effect seen in commercials before the Matrix even came out can win over the entire world and characters in The Phantom Menace that award holds little merit.
