I think BD is doing as well as could be hoped for given:
1.) A format war environment where there is a little bit of a split market and one major studio missing (Universal.) 2.) The most unprecedented and aggressive FUD, lie, and smear campaigns ever conceived and executed for the last two years by their archrival, Microsoft, and Toshiba on a leash. Who here has ever see any product that was/is the target for this sort of thing more than the PS3 has been, especially this last year? I've never seen anything like it myself. |

Already have Two blu-ray games and Two BD movies and counting... this article is bullshit from the begining saying only 400,000 BD movies has been sold and quoted as not good, they forgot Blu-ray Discs games sold ,they forgot PS3 capability for the future as Blu-ray Disc, they forgot some PS3 Fan Boys & girls who only using it as a console game and buying only blu-ray games conclude at the end this is not good for blu-ray in all.this is bullshit. |

I'm around 30:1 (Resistance, of course) and I'd say Virtua Fighter 5 will make that number 2, although I might trade Resistance in since I tend to prefer my FPS's on the PC considerably. I've played through it and I'm probably done with it.
MotorSport comes out in March so that's another PS3 game must-buy. In May it will be Burnout 5 for sure. That BD side is growing rather quickly, even though I have tried to excercise as much restraint as I can and as the budget allows. I could be mistaken, but so far in this thread, I don't think I've seen one person yet who doesn't have a rather noticeable number of BD discs to feed their PS3's. Maybe that Trojan Horse theory had somethin' goin' after all. ![]() |

Over here in Euroland, I decided to stop buying any SD dvd's and began bying BD's.
from the moment I decided to pre-order the PS3, I bought 1 BD per week... to soften the pain of waiting... I'm up to 6 now, not even owning a Blu-ray player. But when the PS3 is out, at least I will have something to watch. Have the best titles so far. I'm afraid not enough good titles (region B) will be available before 23th of march to keep my momentum of 1 BD per week. |

I've got about 7 Blu Rays and 3 games.
The problem is that games cost $60 so I've been feeding my PS3 with $20 Blu Rays instead. |

This is an obnoxious article. Thanks for all the great responses! If you evaluate HD DVD time on the market as a player.. they had many more months to offer buyers. Summer is when Samsung released their unit. There was not another one I had seen until late 2006 near the end of fall. Panasonic, then Sony and I finally saw the Pioneer Elite unit. If there is any balking at the concerns of the format war, the punch is in time frame. BD has penetrated the market much faster than that "other format." But cmon. Do people really know what that other format is? When people mention any new format, they are usually talking about some "blue disc" thingy. People attach to nicknames better than acronyms. LCD, DLP, SXRD, DILA HD DVD, SOL, SOB, POS... cmon. Stick to the TRU BLU. I know for a fact that unless HD DVD comes out with some crash bang boom, some reason for anyone to really look over at that "kid sitting alone on the other side of the cafeteria" That kid is going to drop out without a trace... awww poor what's-his-face.

Europe + Australia + New Zealand is going to be a key driver towards the end of March.
With AT LEAST 1 MILLIONS UNITS up for grabs for the PAL launch before April Fools Day, I think Blu-ray is gonna get a big lead. As for games, skip resistance:FOM unless you attach a keyboard and a mouse to your PS3. Playing FPS on console controllers SUCK ASS (I've had this negative experience playing Perfect Dark Zero once). Oh and skip Resistance if your TV is 1080i-only. You'd be better of with Ridge Racer 7. Now that's a strong title (and the best launch game for the PS3 ever known). ![]() |

It's going to be a while here before BR really takes off in the UK.. DVDs sat second to VHS in most high street shops until around 2001-2002.
I know at least 3 major high street shops will be stocking Blu-Rays in and after march.. and it will be intresting to see how well they sell for the first 6 months. I credit the PS2 as being one of the biggest reasons for DVDs triumph over here.. before the PS2 everyone I knew was happy with VHS. Given time it will be the same with BR. |

I just bought a PS3 from Costco last week for $699, It was the 60 gig with an extra controller and a game which I returned for a decent game.
Two days after buying the PS3, I bought two Blu-Ray movies from Best Buy. Two of my friends have bought PS3s this month and both have bought several BR DVDs. In fact everyone person I know that has bought a PS3 here in Wilmington, NC, have talked about how they like BR DVDs and which titles they liked best. Except for one person who didn't have an HDTV, but said he's getting one as soon as 1080P plasmas get down below 3k. I know more people then I can count that have 360s, including myself and not a single one of them bought the HD DVD add on. Also, when we discuss AV equipment, everyone agreed that they wouldn't buy a standalone player since you could buy a PS3 for a lower price then a stand alone player and get a next gen game system. This discussion occured after the PS3 BR player got great reviews. Some of my poker buddies bought a PS3 for the Blu-Ray player by its self, they don't even play games. But figured their friends kids or nephews would use the thing. I don't put to much stock in to the internet and who's winning the battle. Since so much of this stuff is probably influenced by people working for HDDVD or BR or one of the major studios, but I can tell from real world exsperience that eveyone I've spoken to found that it was just too good fo a deal to get a BR player and a next gen system for 500 to 600 dollars. And that it would be throwing money away to just buy a stand alone player. |

I'm a little over 19:1. I have 6 games.
![]() BTW, that is just the US disc sales so far. That doesn't take into account the Japanese market. I think people forget that this is a global format war. I personally, have not seen a HOME MOVIE format ONLY be adopted in one country but not the rest of the world at some point soon after. Japan is a lock for Blu-ray. The US seems to be leaning the same way. I think this format war can be won with lower than average numbers, but maybe that's just me. Does anyone know of a time movie studios produced movies for two battling movie formats, for long, in different countries after it was a lock for at least one major country and leading in another? |

14 BD Movies, 7 PS3 Games, 60GB PS3 and looking to buy another PS3.
This machine rocks. Absolutely rocks. It's so sweet to have one machine that plays everything and does it digital from end to end. What a piece of engineering and they are just getting started ... the best things come to those who wait. Have about 10 more BD's to get in the next few weeks and then March arrives .. and oh boy March is going to be expensive between games and movies. |
