Some that I thought looked very good for older films:
A Passage To India
Mrs. Doubtfire
How The West Was Won
The Searchers
A Few Good Men
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
Bonnie & Clyde

I wouldn't classify Patton as "outstanding". In many respects it looked very good, certainly much better than any home video presentation before, but it has some issues that have been discussed ad nauseam on this and other forums.

can the OP please define what "older" means for this thread?

no offense to the posters but I don't consider American Psycho/Mrs. Doubtfire/A Few Good Men classics, but then again that's just me.

Blade Runner is the reference I show any of my friends how much Blu-Ray is compared to DVD. It can't be touched.

Patton
Blade Runner
2001
Close Encounters
Halloween
The Thing
Batman The Movie

A few of the them I'd say the PQ is really nice but the audio lags a little behind.

I haven't read all the messages so I dunno if somebody else have already mentioned THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD (1938)

this 70 yo film looks simply amazing! even better than some recent titles (*coff* Crash *coff*).
The colors are really vivid. Almost like a paint. Remember that Robin Hood was shot in glorious Technicolor.
The AQ? well it's as good as it gets. DD 1.0 at 680 kpbs. It sounds fine and most important: It sounds REAL. It doesn't sound fake nor phony as many multichannel mixes for old films.

I can't really praise enough The Adventures of Robin Hood. Even the extras are among the best I've seen on any BD. Finally the BD is CHEAPER than the 2-dics DVD!

IMO it's a no brainer for any serious cinema-buff, a good old style action movie with Errol Flynn, Olivia de Havilland, Basil Rathbone, etc. at their prime. Plus a superb transfer, a wonderful set of extras rounded with an adequate mono track.

The one that blew me away was Enter the Dragon. I wasn't expecting much more than an improvement over the DVD, but it really looks great! If you're a Bruce Lee fan, check it out.

Just because it takes place in the 80s doesn't mean it was made in the 80s, you really think Christen Bale doesn't age?
Hey genius, read the thread, I said the thing and the fly were good looking older movies and funeral dancer commented on my avatar, which is from American psycho. Read before you comment, no one said it was a good old movie.

I think The Omega Man looks quite good for a 1971 film that hasn't been restored at all, just telecined from a very clean master.
A pitty the sound track is only Dolby Digital mono, don't know the rate, maybe 192 Kbps.

Default Mummy Deluxe Edition

Has outstanding PQ and AQ. It is a classic.

Also check out THE 7th VOYAGE OF SINBAD thread, and take a look at some of the pictures and realize that the pictures are BVD and older.
This movie is 50 years old and a definite CLASSIC .
It will be incredible on Blu ray by Sony. ......................

Blade Runner gets my vote. After multiple viewings, I am still astonished by how great it looks and sounds.

Every which way but loose hasn't been mentioned.

I was disgusted at the beginning whilst the title credits are being shown, but as soon as Clint sits in the bar at the start I found it thoroughly enjoying and presentable for the BD format. It also has great sound and its a classic movie.

Did you go into the future?

How do you know those will be good?
