When they start looking like the spiders in “8 Legged Freaks” then I’ll worry

Im never going to austrailia now after seeing that

I believe there was also a big story out of australia where a whole 30 ft tree was completely covered by spider webs. Looked very eery.

There's actually a park in Dallas that had a 200 yard expanse in a park that was completely covered by a monstrous web. That's creepy in itself.

http://en.wikinews.org/wiki/200_yard...rk,_East_Texas

Anyone here watch Monsterquest last night? They had a show about giant spiders. Apparently, this one couple in the Congo back in the 30's claimed to have seen one about 5 foot in diameter and there was also a story about some natives who build their houses to prevent tarantula attacks. Apparently, some livestock, chickens and dogs haven't been so lucky.

I caught that episode. While MQ can be fun to watch, they do like to take a lot of liberties. I’m very doubtful about 1.5 meter spiders.

I agree with that. According to the one scientist, spiders that large would require massive amounts of Oxygen to keep their lungs going. Until someone actually finds a molt of a megaspider, I'll just accept the fact that the natives were exaggerating.

Still though, you gotta wonder what lies in that untamed wilderness.

The article says the bird is a Chestnut-breasted Mannikin, which according to that page is 10-12cm (about the size of your palm). So the spider isn't as big as the pics make it look.

Gary
Nooooo!!! Not the Mannikin bird!! That's the bird that does the moon-walk to attract a mate! There's a video of it on YouTube actually As for the spider; fake or not, the photos still give me the creeps. The spindley spiders creep me out more than hairy spiders like Tarantulas. They're almost cuddly!
