Sure, there are collectors out there that will pay this on EBay or elsewhere because they have to have it in their collection, but I don't see them as the majority. If they were, the values would keep climbing upwards. The ones that consistently sell for lots of money though are usually the earlier sbs that seem to be in shorter supply than newer ones.

I also don't know how much sealed vs. unsealed matters in terms of value, but I know that the general consensus is that sealed usually equates to a higher value than not sealed. It's true that if it is sealed, it can be labeled as never watched or "new," but even if it is sealed, there is risk of damage that can be hard to detect because it is sealed. I can understand the desire to collect something and keep it sealed. I have just had some experiences with buying dvds where the disc is intact and secure inside the case, and it is either not playable or is damaged.
Agreed. Also the fact that it is sealed sometimes makes it for difficult to spot defects like minor dents and scratches under that shrinkwrap.

the only way I would see any value in steel books is if they were in limited quantity over they plastic counterparts, then again paying $200 for a steelbook is crazy.

Unless you unwrap it.
You mean John Rambo? I know about four for sale right now two used/like new for 300 € and two new copies for 400 €! So much for that "$200+" But it is limited to 2000 copies and on the PG index meanwhile.

I hope they put some great artwork on this one.
Maybe not, in DVD Extended Edition was only released in USA and UK, unfortunatelly.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see when it's released. I already picked up the US release of this film for a steal of a price, so I could live with the SteelBook if it is just the theatrical release. I would want to make sure it's playable here in the States, and Argentina is Region A, so that's not a problem.

I would guess that since it's a Region A disc, that they'll use the same printing company to make the discs that made the US release. I don't see why they would go through the trouble to print up two different Region A discs, but studios have done some stupid things in the past.

I also don't know anything about this Argentina store. They might not even have it right that it's going to be a SteelBook. They have 2 Iron Man SteelBooks listed, but one of them looks like the regular blu-ray cover released here in the US, while the other one looks like the Canada Futureshop Exclusive SteelBook, and it is priced higher than King Kong and the 1st Iron Man.

It does look promising so far though, 'cos they have King Kong listed twice, regular blu-ray and a SteelBook.

I checked this site (blu-ray region code info-region a) to see how many Universal Region A blus have been reported as being locked, and it looks like there has not been any yet. I think it is safe to say that this one will be regionfree. Then again, there is always a first. I also just glanced at the list, so I might have missed a Universal release being locked. I think the vast majority of Universal releases have been regionfree though. I guess regionfree goes well with their name, huh?

Touché. I forgot this was a Universal release. But you can never be tooooo sure, you know? I checked the list on the site and filtered Universal, every single release was region free indeed.

And like most people are saying here, given the fact that it'll most probably be a recycling of the US disc, there's much to bet on that it'll include both cuts.

But once again, you can not be sure until it's been confirmed.

I don't think King Kong steelbook is sold out.

According to that web site (DVDboomerang.com), this steelbook has a product pre-sale date of Thursday, April 16, 2009 (see link below).

Does that mean they will start taking preorders on April 16th -- or does it mean that is the release date for the King Kong steelbook?

I used Google translate on the URL to read the page.

Click here to see the page translated to English

I will keep checking the site every few days to see if preordering becomes available -- just in case.

Wont let you preorder anyhoo since u cant choose state (if ur USA)

The wife speaks spanish tho, I'm going to have her call them up closer to release and see what she finds out and if I can place my order. I know the argentina dialect is different but is worth a shot.

On a brighter side, my father travels to south america a few times a year, argentina about twice a year ... I'm going to tell him to check for steels next time he's there. I almost took a job in Argentina as well, may one day as well haha.

Last time he brought me back Indiana Jones and IronMan bootlegs like right when they just hit theaters in US. I dont like bootlegs obviously, nor condone them,(an unwanted gift) but what was really crazy, is that the quality was unbelievable, I never seen a bootleg with such pristine picture, I think whoever made them actually took the film and made direct transfer as opposed to the typical sneak a camera in the theater route.

ps. this steel is going to be covered in foreign language I bet.
