This was my most anticipated release of the year so far and they screwed it up.
it's 19.99 because it's an older catalog title....pricing makes sense to me. maybe hold off until a review hits the internet before declaring final judgment and saying it's "screwed up." just my opinion

Well if you've seen the vastly superior region 2 German releases of Fistful of Dollars and For A Few Dollars More then you know how half-assed the MGM releases are. Not to mention the italian release of Fistful of Dynamite which is also better than the MGM release.

Since when does FOX/MGM price their catalog titles at $20 on release? The bottom line is that this is a rush job budget transfer. Here is another review from Amazon from someone who has already seen the European release which should be the exact same transfer as the US release.

"I bought the EU release of GBU BD, and its... crap! I have Pioneer BD-player and 50" Pioneer plasma (9G), and there is no big difference to the newest special edition dvd-release. The BD has more color depht, but thats about it. No major difference in the sound comparing to the SE dvd.
20 bucks? Why so cheap? Probably because it was made poorly. I would pay even 40 bucks from this movie, if it had the BD restoration it deserved."

first off, i hope you are not trusting your own opinion solely to an amazon review (not necessarily saying that person is lying, but it is their opinion which may not even be correct to begin with). second, i have seen more and more catalog titles priced at $19.99. i'm not saying the transfer on the good the bad and the ugly will be great (or even good for that matter), i'm just saying you should wait for an actual review with screencaps and specs before stating your ultimatum. granted you can do whatever you want, but it seems silly to already judge the movie when you have heard nothing about the transfer except from someone's amazon review.

Wow, this is a tough crowd. First Blu-Rays are too expensive but then when catalog titles are released at an attractive price point, the immediate assumption is that the transfer is terrible or they otherwise haven't really truly put in the effort. Of course, nobody has actually seen it, so it is all speculation. Calm down and wait to see what it looks like.

That said, this is a great movie and it will immediately be the best reasonably available transfer out there, so I pre-ordered it from Amazon.

I think it is best to just wait until it is released, wait for the reviews, and find out if it is done right or a crap port to blu ray.. I won't pre-order it.. and will not buy it if it is a crap port.

If more people waited for the reviews instead of blind pre-ordering.. the stuidos would KNOW better than to release a crap port that won't sell.

After seeing the DVD of the 1966 movie, I am quite confident the blu will hold up pretty well. Usually, when an older movie is made in blu, its because its worth it.

I still have never seen the truck in this movie, I can't find it. Maybe I will on blu if they don't edit it out.

Well, I hate it when I'm right!! Here is the dvdbeaver review:

http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/DVDCom...oodbadugly.htm

As you can see from the screen comparisons, it's DNRed up the ass lacking fine detail. I can't believe MGM/FOX would screw this masterpiece up with such a garbage release. What a bunch of incompetent morons!!

Yeah, I'll wait for more reviews on this one. The faces look waxy as hell, and the background detail seems lacking.

The DVDBeaver review does say it looks better in motion, and hasn't been over-DNR-ed, but I'll still wait for more reviews.

I really, really hope they didn't **** up Fargo. I'm much more excited for that one.

I'm pretty upset that we won't be getting the 161 minute cut, enough so that I just won't buy this. GBU is my favorite western of all time, but the English language extended cut is a poor way to watch it. MGM got lazy/cheap and made no effort to digitally alter Eastwood's or Wallach's voice tracks to make them sound younger (this was done with great success on Lawrence of Arabia), so it's completely jarring when the 70+ year-old voices come out of 30-something actors, and it pulls me right out of the movie.

Also, the scene where Wallach recruits the Mexican bandits has no place in any cut of this film. Leone cut it from the Italian version after one showing. He never wanted it in the picture. MGM added it back because they could, not because they should.

Screw you MGM. How hard would it have been to add seamless branching and an original mono track? This was a minimum effort DVD-port of one of the finest films in your library. It deserves better!

Mondo Released "For A Few Dollars More" and it only had Italian DTS-HD MA 1.0 and No English audio/subs. I am pretty sure their "The Good, The Bad And the Ugly" will follow suit.
