Depends on your area though, not only as to what's available but cost per month. I've heard VERY bad things about ADT. That's where the BTK killer worked, but most of what I've heard about ADT is due to response time and service being lousy.

You would also need to have a phone landline active. Not a problem for most, but I haven't had a landline since '02 and have no urge to pay for one.

Perhaps you simply misread the definition of home invasion and burglarly and don't comrehend the distinction?

Thanks. But my local police refers to it as a Home Invasion when home and Burglary when not home. This is to differentiate because people want to knew if the criminals are brazen enough to enter the home when residents are there. Burglaries seem to get less police attention versus a Home Invasion. Regardless, a gun will not protect your stuff when you are away. Therefore it is limited and useless most of the time where an alarm, dogs, etc can protect 24/7.

a dog is useless. if a robber throws the dog a bone, hamburger meat, or a t-bone steak the dog will do nothing but eat the bone/meat and love on the burglar. maybe that's what a burgery is.

Thiefs are opportunists. They go for easier pickings. This is why having a dog that barks alot is great at night. My dog always barked at 1st sight, I tested it myself by sneaking up on my dog at night in my dark driveway. Even after I threw food, dog gobbled it in seconds & continued to bark away until it recognised me.

Alarm signs work well to scare off a random burglar. Thet have so many homes to choose from so being inconvenienced means that thief would move on.

Yes... it seems these days... EVERY neighborhood.... no matter how nice... has it's own "crack house." My neighborhood is no exception. I have it on good authority that the residents of my neighborhood crack house are quite afraid of my dog who looks and acts quite vicious through the fence. Between her and the ADT signs all over my iron gate at the end of my drive way... I don't even have to worry about anyone entering my yard... much less my house... which is in the middle of a fully fenced yard.

My little dog will throw out ear splitting barks when someone disturbs a blade of grass in our yard. If you were to sprint across the yard, barge through the door, and pitch a ball of hamburger at my dog he would have still ripped off at least 100 barks. Behind him is the big dog, and behind him is the guy with the Glock and rediculously overpowered flashlight that just rendered you blind for the next 10 minutes.

My dogs are a lot of things, but worthless is not one of them.

You're not getting the right breed of dog if that is your experience.

Where's the option for a Macaulay Culkin installed security system à la Home Alone? Dangling paint buckets, Christmas ornaments, torches, feathers, glue....

That's my choice.

Not for all of them. I know people that have an alarm system that transmits everything over the internet. They are changing with the times and realize people may not have landlines or want to pay for a landline just for the alarm, but chances are good they have a high speed internet connection.

.357 SIG is better.

Bottom line, dog is best. Alarm takes forever to rspond too, if at all. If you are not home, your only hope is to deter the guy to the next house over. If they guy really wants to rip you off, only being home will slow him down.

Signs are as effective of a deterrent for burglers as they are for smokers, litterbugs, speeders, shoplifters, cell-phone users, etc.

If you're put in the unfortunate situation where someone may try to do you harm it is always best to be in a position where you are capable of protecting yourself.

Afterall...when seconds count the police are minutes away. Besides, the courts have ruled that they (police) are not required to defend or protect you anyway.
