Aero,

Seen any good old movies lately? 60's, 70's? Hard to believe that is old now. When I was little stuff like Creature from the Black Lagoon was old, now it is ancient.

Lol - Well somewhat. I'm 3 movies thru the 5-Disc Clint Eastwood "Dirty Harry: Ultimate Collector's Edition" box-set. I've watched & reviewed (mostly in "Talstarone's" thread) the first three: "Dirty Harry" (1971), "Magnum Force" (1973), & "The Enforcer" (1976) -- I just have "Sudden Impact" (1983) & "The Dead Pool" (1988) left to watch to complete the set. The first three look Really Good for being 35+ years old each, though the Audio is "pretty good", it's not as Robust as obvious Newer releases, or those worked on say, via Criterion. Dialogue & the Mostly Front-Heavy Audio is Clear though, including Dirty Harry's CANNON that sounds like it's coming Thru the speakers at times, right for you!!

I'm going to see "INCEPTION" tomorrow (later today, at 3:20pm) in an IMAX theater, or else I'd be watching at least one of the last two movies noted above. But I'm off Friday & don't have to go into work til' 4pm Thurs., so I should be able to finish off the Set this week.

Default Saw "Inception" today - LFE Heaven!!!

Very good movie, excellent visuals, Original (what a concept!) Storyline, Intense Audio all-around. Seeing this in an IMAX theater is, IMO, the Only way to see it.

Good lord, can you beat 12,000 Watts of Digital Audio?!

This just might be THEE New KING of LFE, when it comes out on Bluray. Day One Buy for sure.

From my Post in Tals' thread, read more of my "mini-review" on "Inception" HERE.

As I noted, IF you can, try to see this in an IMAX Theater.

Good Lord, I can still feel the Vibrations like it was 2 mins. ago!!

Btw, in the INCEPTION Thread, of the 393 people who have voted (after having seen it), 289 gave it FIVE STARS, & 77 have given it Four Stars. I gave it Four; mainly cuz' of the length, & some of the dialogue (a bit talkative at times, but just a Little really). A Great Perfect movie gets 5 stars in my book. This one is very close to that IMO...

Default "Sudden Impact" & "The Dead Pool"

Hey All - As you know, I've watched the first 3 films in the "Dirty Harry" series (DIRTY HARRY, MAGNUM FORCE, & THE ENFORCER). So it looks like I will have time to watch at Least the 4th one - "SUDDEN IMPACT", & perhaps later, the final/5th one, "THE DEAD POOL", if time permits.

I will, as always, have a Review of how they sound in the Aerodude HT.

Default "Sudden Impact" - 1983 - My Official Review

The Only "Dirty Harry" film Directed by Clint Eastwood - also the longest, clocking in at 1 hour 54 minutes - co-stars his one-time GF Sondra Locke as an artist ("Jennifer Spencer") avenging the rape & attack on her & her sister years ago. PQ is pretty decent for the most part for this 27-yr-old film, with some sections being surprisingly Quite Clear actually. AQ, like the 1st three in the series (this one being #4), is decidedly Front-Heavy with minimal Surround use & LFE (hardly much Low-End at all really). Dialogue is Clear, directionality & film score is handled well, but again, mainly across the front Sound-stage (L/C/R). As usual though, when "Inspector Callahan" fires his gun, the Cannon-like sound is like you've never heard before (for its' time, that is).

6-Time Academy Award Nominee Lalo Schifrin once again contributes to the films opening musical Theme & music (as he had for all the "Dirty Harry" movies). Aside from the Opening musical Theme - which is 80's Electronica at it's worst (IMO) - music plays a subdued role in the film. Long-time Clint Eastwood friend & co-star in 4 of the DIRTY HARRY films, is Albert Popwell (1926-1999) - this time playing a fellow Detective. Of note, if you don't miss her quickly, in a short (un-credited) role as an extra, is a then 22-yr-old Camryn Manheim as "girl in elevator" (click HERE for the Video Clip). Most of you might know her as "Ellenor Frutt" from "The Practice" (1997-2004).

The movie itself is pretty good, just not as good as the first 3 in the series, IMO. Sondra Locke must have been force-fed Mass Quantities of Sedatives for the first 3/4 of the movie. I mean, really, did she go out for a Zombie movie casting call, take a wrong turn, & end up at the Warner Bros. set for this film? I guess bad acting doesn't matter when you're sleeping with the Star/Director (). Clint has some Classic lines & scenes (see below), & overall, the film has a very good supporting cast, if not too well-known.

Final Numbers:
Movie: 3 of 5
Audio: 3.5 of 5
Video: 4 of 5

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Memorable Quotes:

[Callahan dares a crook to shoot his hostage]
Harry Callahan: Go ahead, make my day. ---- (short Video Clip HERE)

Crook: [during a Diner robbery] What's you doing, you pighead sucka?
Harry Callahan: Every day for the past ten years, Loretta here's been giving me a large black coffee - except today she gives me a large black coffee and it has sugar in it. A lotta sugar. I just came back to complain.
Crook: Say what, sucka?
Harry Callahan: Well, we're not just gonna let you walk out of here.
Crook: Who'se we sucka?
Harry Callahan: [slowly drawing his .44 Magnum] Smith, Wesson... and me. ---- (watch Video Clip HERE)

[Inspector Callahan is doing some target-practice in the woods, when his friend Horace King approaches]
Horace King: So I heard you got a forced vacation.
Harry Callahan: [takes his magnum gun out] Uh-huh.
Horace King: You still use the Magnum .44?
Harry Callahan: Pretty powerful. You want to see?
Horace King: Sure.
Harry Callahan: [shoots a tree stump and some metal. Tons of wood splinters go all over the place, the bullets make shattering circles in the metal]
Horace King: Look, you gotta start being careful. I think you really should go on vacation.
Harry Callahan: Forget it. I never take a vacation.
Horace King: Well either that or quit.
Harry Callahan: That's a good idea right there. I really should quit. Then I can handle the law my own way.
Horace King: Yeah, but then you'll be a JAMF.
Harry Callahan: Uh huh. And what is a JAMF?
Horace King: Jive A$$ Mother...
Harry Callahan: [cutting off just in time] Forget I asked... ---- (watch Video Clip HERE)

[Horace King Fires two shotgun blasts at the target]
Harry Callahan: Not bad.
Horace King: Not bad, my ass! You've got to strain to find remains for the fingerprints.
Harry Callahan: Well, this is the .44 Magnum Auto-Mag and it holds a 300-grain cartridge. And, if properly used, it can remove the fingerprints...

Captain Briggs: Don't you lecture me, you son of a *****! Do you know who I am? Do you know my record?
Harry Callahan: Yeah... you're a legend in your own mind.

(NOTE: "Ray Parkins" is one butt-ugly girl, a Lesbian in this film)
Ray Parkins: [approaching Callahan] Well hey there, cutie. Wanna buy me a drink?
Harry Callahan: [uninterested] Not today.
Ray Parkins: Come on, sailor. There must be something you want to ask me. You might get lucky!
Harry Callahan: Only with humans... ---- (Watch Video Clip HERE)

Burly Detective: What do ya think, a gang hit, screwed-up drug score, unlucky John, or an unhappy love affair? Huh? Don't tell me this sh!t's gettin' to ya. Not Harry Callahan. Say it ain't so.
Harry Callahan: No, this stuff isn't gettin' to me. The knifings, the beatings, old ladies being bashed in the head for their Social Security checks, teachers being thrown out of a fourth-floor window because they don't give As, that doesn't bother me a bit.
Burly Detective: Come on, Harry. Take it easy.
Harry Callahan: Or this job, either. Having to wade through the scum of this city, being swept away by bigger and bigger waves of corruption, apathy and red tape. Nah, that doesn't bother me. But you know what does bother me?
Burly Detective: What?
Harry Callahan: You know what makes me really sick to my stomach?
Burly Detective: What?
Harry Callahan: Is watching you stuff your face with those hot dogs. Nobody, I mean NOBODY, puts ketchup on a hot dog... ---- (Watch the Video Clip HERE)

Hey bud, thanks. I didn't start off with the intention of adding the Video clips for the quotes, but I found em' so decided to throw them in the review.

I see HANG EM' HIGH "is" out on Bluray but HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER is not. How was the "Hang Em' High" PQ & AQ?
