Just read in Total Film, there will be 3 versions of the movie on the extended Blu Ray.
1. The 16 minute extended cut.

2. The original cut.

3. A 'Family version', where you can press a button and remove the Language.

I dont remember any language personally, but maybe i wasn't concentrating.

Yeah, I read in an interview with MTV that Cameron had the actors come back and re-dub over some of the profanity because his own wife told him he should set an example and that their kids shouldn't be watching his own movie with those bad-words in it. So the "family-version" you read about explains it.

It really wasn't bad IMO. Jake yells "GD" when hes falling with the banshee off the cliff and "Holy-S***" when Neytiri's banshee comes out of the tree and scares him. Other than that, it was tame.

So the 9 minute version wont be included, only the 16 minute?

Damn, can't wait for an official anouncement. Its hard to make head or tails of all the stuff that Cameron has been going on about.

or you could hold out for the ultimate edition for $4,999 with a certificate where James Cameron shows up to your house and gives you a hummer and I'm not talkin about a big SUV

I'm laughing my butt off

A family version of AVATAR:3 I'm game, but I'm hoping it's not jarring, I mean I can see more in Anime and cartoons. But they well have to do a lip sync, and do some cuts. Personly I hope the family version is an option in the audio section on the TE.

Some line with questionable dialog
Changes
{to the mods and admin, I'm sorry, I'm only saying lines from the film, please do not feet mad at me}

You're not the only one with a gun *****
You're not the only one with a gun

Holy shit
Holy crap, Wo, jees

If there is a hell...
If there is a heck

Where is my god damn cigarte
Where is my cigaret, where is my gosh darn cigaret

Hell ya
Heck ya, wooo hooo

That what I'm thinking. I really hope this is not real.

Here is what I'm think

The original cut(TE) with option family friendly audio. I still have to say that the family friendly is not a great idea

Spical edition

Extended cut

All on there own discs

I think he needs to stop listening to his wife. Worst idea ever.

The standard release was already pretty family-friendly to me so that just surprises me.

The redub was done a while ago (also when Jack says are you out of your god dam mind, will be redubbed jarhead mind ), and it's done for most films so they can be played less restrictivly on tv etc. Luckily I don't consider such changes worthwhile oand only watch it as it was intended.

I apologize if this has been asked in here already, but this thread has gotten huge. I thought I read somewhere that there might be a coupon for those that bought the earlier release that could be applied to the newer one coming out. Was there any truth or further info to this? Thanks in advance.

Default Was Avatar 1.78:1 or 2.35:1

I'm confused by this because i heard in some theatres it was shown in 2.35:1 does this mean when James Cameron chose 1.78:1 for the home release that we're missing some of the image if the original ratio was 2.35:1

To the best of my knowledge, it was always 1.78:1

It was 2.35:1 but there was an IMAX version which was 1.78:1. So I think the 2.35:1 is the version that is actually missing something (the bottom and top edges).

Feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

I'm guessing it was filmed in 1.78:1, cropped to 2.35:1 for the theatrical release and presented in James Cameron's original, preferred aspect ratio for the home video release (1.78:1) which shows more information.

This has been asked on multiple occasions.

The film was shot in 1.78:1, because Cameron says he wanted more height to the screen size, but theatres showed it in 2.35:1 for the 2D version, thereby cropping part of the top and the bottom. So for the Blu-ray release it is being shown in the correct aspect ratio it was filmed in.

Here's an image to explain it a bit better:-

Certain 2.35:1 films shot on Super35 was opened to 1.78:1 for HD broadcast, but the composition are not focused and all over the place because that's not how the director framed the picture while shooting it.

Avatar was filmed 1.78:1, the CGI/visual effects all created within the 1.78:1 frame. It was the director's intent. The 2D version was shown cropped to 2.35:1 but he still prefers the original aspect ratio.

Furthermore, the 2.35:1 version ended up necessitating several visual FX modifications/revisions from the original 1.78:1 framing -- for example, the cockpit HUDs in the V/STOLs had to be digitally altered in order to actually remain visible in the 2.35:1 framing, since they were cut off by the bottom frame in that aspect ratio.

When you watch the 1.78:1 version, the cockpit displays show up as they were originally shot in-camera on the set, unaltered.

I really think its wrong that they would alter the ratio and cut some of the image. At least we can see it all at home.

when i saw the 3D version at the cinema, it was presented in 2:35.1

pretty sure that both formats were shipped out to cinemas and was instructed by Fox to display whatever version would take up most the screen. some cinemas extend the sides to 2:35.1 or narrow the screen

I think that Avatar was simply shot in 1.78:1 and intended for 2.35:1, like the Super35 movies Cameron made. He simply changed his mind, and said that he came to prefer the 1.78:1 while prepping the Blu-ray. Take any medium shot, preferably with two people in it, or more, and see for yourself. The amount of space above the heads of the actors simply wouldn't be there in the 2.35:1 version, and weren't supposed to be there.
