Quote the red question portion to enter. Thanks!
Atleast 1 movie everyday so 31 movies. But some days I might watch more. Depends on available time and what I'm watching some movies I like to watch the sequels as well.

I would like to watch 31 films this year, but, realistically, I will probably watch at least 15 films and a handful of television episodes/specials.

This is one of my favorite threads -- as corny as it may be; I enjoy reading what everyone watches and their opinions that follow, as the holiday season really gets you in the mood for this thread.

I got an email today of Freeform's 31 Nights of Halloween (2018 Movie Schedule)

Kolchack: The Night Stalker (episode: The Knightly Murders "first time viewing")
139633905-kolchak-the-night-stalker.jpg
I had always read about how this program inspired/influenced Chris Carter in his development of The X-Files, but never got around to watching it. I caught an episode on MeTV months ago by accident, and enjoyed it -- I started DVRing the episodes after that. The program seems to follow a formula for each episode, but there are a few that break that mold. I think my favorite things about this program are Darren McGavin's performance as Kolchak -- if his performance wasn't fantastic, I probably could easily see myself passing on this program due to there not being enough other, overwhelming strengths to look past an average performance by a lead -- ; the good, often humorous, supporting characters that are constants (ex: INS employees) and/or change from episode to episode, and the mythology of the monsters that aren't always your usual suspects (ex: Hindu Rakshasa).

As for this episode, it is enjoyable; but probably lands somewhere in the middle of the pack in my ranking of episodes I have watched -- watched about 75% of episodes. The monster is a spirit that reanimates the black suit of armor it wore when it was a black knight to destroy those that threaten it's place of residence -- a castle, medieval museum, that is going to be remodeled into a disco. There are some faults I looked past for the sake of "suspension of disbelief" (Ex: a reanimated suit of armor is just casually walking around Chicago killing it's perceived threats, without being noticed or stopped), but it has enough substance to be enjoyed. There are some great, supporting characters that add some humor to this episode (Ex: Minerva Musso "interior decorator", Cpt. Vernon Rausch). Often times, the monsters can look cheap and unconvincing, but this episode had the luxury of the monster being a suit of armor.

rating:

Halloween Wars (episode: Most Monstrous Scares "first time viewing")
halloween-wars1.jpg HW4.jpg
A pretty straight forward program on the Food Network. There are multiple teams of three (pumpkin carver, sugar maker, & cake maker) that compete against each other all season to try to be the team that wins $50,000 at the end of the season. A panel of judges are the individuals who decide winners/losers. Teams create a small piece with limited time -- winner get some advantage for the main competition -- and large piece that the judges use for their basis on who goes home and/or wins the season. Each competition has a different theme (Ex: zombies). I'm not a big fan of cooking shows, but this show just really fascinates me. I'm amazed at how these individuals are creating awesome art using mediums, like pumpkins and pulled sugar. The stories behind each piece and how the teams develop the stories are engaging. Additionally, I think the holiday season really gets me more involved in this program, than I would at any normal time of the year.

This episode was really just looking back at past seasons' creations. The show did a countdown for different categories (Ex: biggest meltdowns, best Small Scares, etc). I had watched many of the episodes that this episode was highlighting, so I don't know if I really found it interesting -- almost like watching a cliffnotes version when you have already read the whole book. It's real job was to just build hype for the new season.

rating: (hard to judge this episode, because it is really just looking back at episodes)

The Exorcist (1973) -

I watched the director's cut for the first time and I've got to say I'm not a huge fan of the changes. The movie is still awesome, but those differences are unnecessary imo. I will probably try and rewatch the theatrical cut sometime later this month also.

Starting things off with this movie. Only had time for something short so settled on this. Pretty average movie but I like Katheryn Winnick. She needs to be in more stuff. The scene with the clown was actually genuinely pretty scary.

Night of the Living Dead (1990)

Not as good as the original but enjoyable. I liked the change to Barbara's character making her more strong and independent but I hated the change to Mr. Cooper's character. In the original he was a dick but in this his level of douchebaggery is almost comical because it's so unrealistic.

First viewings in bold.

01/10 - Mandy (2018)
01/10 - Blood Fest (2018)

01/10 - Stay Alive (2006)

I saw this when it first came out years ago and figured since I couldn't remember much about it maybe I should give it another shot. Well, much like Blood Fest this one had the potential to more than it ended up being. The mythology was great and there was plenty to like but with some tweaking it could have been much better. Tonally it was played a bit too straight fir my taste but with a bigger budget, change of setting (creepy castle or something) and a director with more artistic flair it could have been a cult classic.

10/1 The Blood Spattered Bride (1972)

The direction is excellent, Maribel Martin is absorbing in the role of Susan, and the story is bold and extremely dark. The husband however alternates between reasonably smart and impossibly stupid which hurt the coherency of the plot.

Ok, I'll give it a go again this year....although I won't come close to watching a movie a day...more realistically it'll be a few movies per weekend.

That said, I don't want to do the usual....anyone can watch Halloween, or Friday the 13th etc. Not knocking them, I just want something different.

So I'm going to go through my library and give preference to those that I haven't watched yet, and maybe some more obscure titles. We'll see how it goes.

Happy viewing everyone!

I watched the director's cut for the first time and I've got to say I'm not a huge fan of the changes. The movie is still awesome, but those differences are unnecessary imo. I will probably try and rewatch the theatrical cut sometime later this month also...
I thought the spider crawl scene alone was worth it. Literally gave me goosebumps the first time I saw it in the theatre.
