What's going on Al ?

Yeah I decided on the Yamaha CD-C600 with the dual Burr-Brown DAC's . I ordered it on the 18th from the Audioholics store (one of the few places that still had them in stock). It's due to arrive this coming Wednesday . Needless to say......... I can't wait

I hate waiting too.

TGIF! Well, this week is almost over. Yeah! Movie time and perfecting my imitation of a potato will be interrupted this weekend. Got to meet some friends Saturday, and some friends of wife on Sunday. Cannot wait until I can afford that cabin in the middle of the woods. Not really a cabin, because it needs to have a HUGE home theater (of course).

Hello Russ.

Let's continue the discussion regarding the subs.

Now, the main reason you would have dual subs is for movie playback right? You're not using the dual subs for music playback are you?

Well...... as you know, first and foremost I'm a music lover yet all of my systems with the exception of one (in my now occupied guest room) are 5 channel setups. That being said.... I do use my subwoofers for music as well as movies. There are several reasons for this. The main one being that since my pre-amp only has a fixed crossover @100 Hz and I run my mains small (for theater duty) I would have to reconfigure my setup every time I switched from movie viewing to music listening (major hassle). Also the dual subs reach down to about 18 Hz were as my fronts go down to around 28 Hz -3dB's . And the flexibility of my pre allows me to set individual trim levels for each input. So where as for movie viewing through the 5.1 channel inputs (Oppo) has the subwoofer running +5 dB hot ( so does the TV input), the analog connection for the CD player has the subs running flat (-3 dB used at setup).

And Lawrence those twin subs have breathed new life into my Cd collection. You've got to hear an upright bass being played (bowed or plucked ) you can hear and feel the string vibrate. I also get similar effects with the kick drum....... and pipe organs

Why do you ask ?

And a backup in case that goes, and probably a backup for the backup too. Be like The Shining stuck in the middle of the woods with no HT.

Whats up Russ!!! Have a happy easter! Good luck with the OT this weekend! Did you get all the subs in place or is that what your doing on Sunday? Do you have one of those Sound Meters from radio shack?? I got one and it helped a lot with my sub and surround settings. Apparently I like everything LOUD! Now that I have everything at a decent volume they sound much better.

Thanks dude.... and you have a happy also. Nah I haven't re-aligned my front soundstage as of yet (I've been to busy enjoying my music) and I'll have to do some major moves to get the sub thing accomplished ,switching the fronts so the side firing woofers face inside instead of outside, change the length of cable between the subs (they're daisy chained) and so on plus some heavy lifting (aint exactly looking forward to it )

As far as Sound meters go...... I'm kinda surprised you didn't have one earlier I've had my trusty old analog Radio Shack meter since about 1988 (still using the original battery) and its never let me down. I own a couple of test records (vinyl), CD's, DVD's and Blu-rays. To me... you can't configure your system without one. I've recently toyed with the idea of setting up one of my old ADC equalizers to use the analyzer functions to check out my room response and assist in further acoustic treatments.

BTW outside of a complete speaker overhaul (which I've been contemplating for a while), I believe room treatments make for the biggest upgrade one can make to their system. The difference has been nothing short of amazing in my space

Thanks for the compliments Bill..... But I'm not seeing the improvements, I'm hearing them and I still have a ways to go. I'm presently trying to decide on a color scheme for the paint job (this may take years, the way I work) and an area rug, ceiling treatments & bass traps. Then I may move into the realm of speaker arrays (but that's damn expensive ). Especially buying a complete system at one time (with my tastes)
