They are saying this so that you will all buy the April release.

Then, to avoid being called liars, they will release the double dip 3D in DECEMBER just to slap everyone in the face.

Because some people will pass on the bare bones April release when they find out that a special edition is coming later this year.

To Fox, letting people know ahead of time is a bad business (money making) move.

Yep. They cant force you to double dip when you are well informed of the superior version in advance.

The execs probably spit up the scotch when they heard Cameron say that.

Really? The 3D BD can play like a normal 2D BD?
I don't keep up with the 3D news, so I wouldn't know that.

Yes. If you have 3D equipment, you will have the option to watch it either in 3D or 2D.

If you don't have 3D equipment, it will default to 2D.

Nope, according to JC the 3D release will be the special edition, so only 2 versions.

I wouldn't doubt this at all. I'm sure they'll will at least include the old school 3-D with the red and blue glasses for the April release.

No, the April release is only 2-D. This movie wasn't made for that kind of 3-D (the "hey, let's make it 3-D because it sounds cool" kind).

So you already have a 3D player and 3D TV then?

I want to keep my 3D viewings to being at the theater only, for the moment. Especially since I love my Blu-Ray player too much to give up and I just bought my T.V. around a year ago...would make NO sense to run out to spend that much money on new stuff.
I'd be perfectly happy with a 2D release. Give it a main menu, AMAZING PQ, and AMAZING AQ and I'll be very happy.

LOL but it's ok it's James Cameron he can't do no wrong I am sure

I am quite sure they will try to go for a double dip if not even triple did. Expect a ultimate box set of Avatar sometime in 2011

Its not been proven anywhere that a 3D movie will also be 2D on a 3D TV

Of course, figures.

News Corp. loves the green stuff, you know money, cash, $$$, moolah, bucks, cold cash, loot...

And Avatar is surely something that brings those things in, but not if people actually found out that they're buying an inferior product - which they're not. Though many will likely believe they are.
