Right it is a better and different transfer than the poor Euro AVC releases. As we've said, it looks to be the same as the US VC-1 (which is IMO the best release on Blu Ray of the film)

Someone is going to have to pour over screenshots to see how it's compression measures up to the US release but from doing a quick A/B comparison between them it looks to be the same transfer. It is at least much better than the other European releases

I have that Blu-ray; I haven't actually SEEN it yet... But, from scanning through it, I was very impressed with the look of it!

I'll gladly take the German release with its 2 second glitch -- and excellent HD/upscaling work, to say nothing of its 5.1 DTS MA track -- over sitting through the whole extended DVD in standard definition again.
Ah... you beat me to it you B@stard! I didn't see your reply until I had made mine...

And from what I could tell, the extended cut seemed to be exactly the same - I didnt see the actual extended bits too much but they seemed very good too. I really should watch it properly but just havent got time right now plus Ive got a new AV setup just arrived. Maybe Ill make Dune my first watch on the new system!
Agree... I also have it, although I haven't watched the full movie yet, but glancing through it, it looks frigg'n STUNNING!

I didnt even watch bits in optimum viewing conditions (room was quite sunny so not great for my plasma) and it looked very good. So I think when I get round to watching this one with the blinds down its going to look very good - at least as good as the US. Going to go with extended one first - its going to be a real treat to see that in decent HD for the first time!

Are we not going to see the German release in the List of International BD's then Goof?

Right now its clear that this release is easily the best version of the extended cut if nothing else.

I suspect caps comparisons will confirm its the same transfer as the US.

Yeah, I'll add it if there are specs. Have you done a BDInfo scan of it?

I didn't watch the entire extended cut yet, but watched the first half hour last night (mainly to see the glitch which was there yes, but was less intrusive than expected). I was blown away by the PQ/AQ of this cut, much more impressive than I was expecting for an upscaled transfer and this easily surpasses the SD DVD. Considering the price, this was a steal and I'm thrilled to add this to the US BD to have both versions.

Did you compare it to the theatrical disc? I think its the same transfer - I couldnt tell the difference when I quickly checked it anyway!

Dont have a PC blu-ray drive Im afraid.

Bitrates were in the 30s to high 30s every time I looked. AQ bitrates were in the 4-5's too.

I only checked out the extended cut disc as I'm assuming (until BD scans prove otherwise) that the US disc is still the better transfer for the theatrical version.

Does anyone know if this version coming out in May is remastered? Or is it a case of "previous old disc with a new cover" or something to that effect? The Amazon listing up to this point doesn't have anything in regards to including the extended version.

A remastered "Dune" would be kind of awesome.

Another release of the movie and we still can't get Lionsgate to give us the goddamn 2000 mini-series on BD!?

Knowing Universal I am sure it's the same disc. However, if it is a new 4K master I will certainly buy dune for about the 6th time.

Definitely! Bet its the same though.

I still think that German theatrical disc is the same transfer as the US. I had a quick look again a while back and I couldn't tell the difference.

I still wish Universal would do a nice new 2K or 4K master of the TV cut. I know it exists for a BD release because they did it for the 2006 DVD steelbook.
