It really depends on what TV stuff you watch apparently. I never saw one commercial for this flick. I saw BFG commercials all the time and I constantly read that movie bombed because there was "no marketing." It obviously depends, when you're not a billion dollar franchise they do targeted marketing and some people never see it.

I didn't see this in the theater because there was too much around it to see and getting my wife to the theater in the first place is like screwing a nun.

I also saw a lot of ads for this. After watching the movie I even felt like I would have enjoyed it more if I didn't see so much of it already. I still really liked it but almost every moment that would have normally been a huge laugh for me I had already seen in commercials and trailers multiple times.

My sentiments exactly! My favourite scene from the trailers was the one
[Show spoiler]where the two guys are falling - one lands in the pool, the other splats on the cement.
I kept anticipating when that would happen. This happens a lot for movies I have huge expectations for. A private detective buddy movie set in the 70s is tailor made for me, but often with movies like that my first viewing my senses are so overwhelmed trying to absorb it all, I end up being a bit underwhelmed. I know I'm going to love this more watching it at home on blu-ray.

Terrific film! Saw it in the theater and picked up the Blu-ray this morning at Target for $18.99 (after price match and RedCard). We'll be showing it as the main feature at our next Booth Bijou Garage Theater event.

As for digital copies.. I only redeem the ones that are iTunes compatible. The *only* digital copies of movies I've ever purchased have been through iTunes. Screw Ultraviolet, Vudu or any of the other services.

BTW, if any of you are thinking about PM'ing me to ask about my UV code for 'The Nice Guys', please click the appropriate link in my signature.

Yep; this and Swiss Army Man are my definite favorites so far this year. Can't wait to watch this one again and show it to some new people!

Mine arrived today from Amazon -- we caught this in the theater back in May (right as the school-year ended), and absolutely loved it. Huge Shane Black fan.

Want to get this movie so bad right now, but I know if I wait a few weeks, this will follow the path of previous WB releases like Man from U.N.C.L.E. and The Intern, and be $14.99.

Loved this movie in theatres.

Stupid Rotten Tomatoes logo damaged my slipcover upon removing it.

Shame on you, Warner Bros. Don't make the sticky stuff so damn sticky!

Watched this just now. I went in with too high of expectations I think, so it disappointed slightly, but it's still very good. It's no Lethal Weapon or Kiss Kiss, but it's very good. Might love it on second viewing, right now it's a solid liked it. Tween girl stole the movie from both main actors, which was great. Exaggerated 70's world was great. Dialog damn near perfect, as you would expect from Black. Crowe feels perhaps a bit out of his element but he makes it through. Gossling was great. It's super annoying to me that people act like movies like this aren't made anymore but never pay attention to them when they are.

Disc looked nice, but very digital. Doesn't really fit with the 70's setting to have super digital looking photography but hey, that's me swimming against the stream and all that.

Same here. It's not too bad, though...just kind of a white streak on the left side of the slip

I really wanted to like this movie but it was pretty bad. Acting was bad and cheesiness over the top. I only laughed at the bathroom scene with the gun and newspaper. 3/10

Can anyone who owns the disc confirm or deny a Portuguese audio track? WB almost always has them on the disc and this would be a rare exception.

So weird, since there were no extras at the theater and the movie was what was important. Now I guess only extras are priority.

Oh and if you are seriously questioning why WB would put out "five editions each of bvs and suicide squad" and not spend much on extras for this film, check the box office numbers then get back to us. It's not rocket science.

Dunno what crawled up my butt when I saw this in theaters but I had a good time rewatching it on Blu-ray. Maybe it was the lower expectations or having a better idea what to expect this time, but the movie just flowed better and the fact that I knew most of the best jokes from the trailer didn't bother me so much. Would bump up my rating to a 3 out of 4, movie's not a new classic but it's good fun, I don't mind owning it.

Watching this right now. My BB didn't get any copies in last week for release day, so I stopped by Target on my way home from work. Took the guy at least five minutes to get it out of its plastic clamshell prison. At least the slip wasn't damaged.

I've got to say, I'm having a great time watching it. Russell and Ryan have pretty good chemistry together as partners. A great blind buy! Too bad it didn't do that well in theaters.
