I wouldn't be surprised if they are already working on a switch over and are just waiting to clear inventory. I suspect Uni and Para to announce either neutral or their intentions going forward in a few months if not weeks. Their crap advertising lately and silence with the bombshells in the past month is saying a lot.

Always the same phrase
Quote:
Consumers have long decided week after week, month after month, through software sales not cheapo up-conversion DVD players that they prefer Blu-ray. This format war has been decided on the basis of the format to consistently sell the most software, and that reason alone is all that has ever mattered, that is what sways Studio's to either side not who has the cheapest Hardware. Doesn't matter how many players they sell they still won't and havn't to this day gained any significant change in sales for software, which is all that matters. With every passing Studio the percentage has jumped away. Doesn't matter if they give their players away for free they are and always will be just a up-conversion device, guess they should have removed 'DVD' compatibility from the start ![]() Last edited by Denzelio; 02-12-2008 at 09:14 AM. |

Not to worry. This is the end. Toshiba is not even fighting at this point. They more or less said, "at least Best Buy didn't cut off our head. They just stabbed us in the heart." Either way, HD-DVD's death was made certain yesterday. |

HD DVD group reaction to Universal dropping HD DVD (future sight here) We have long held the belief that HD DVD is the best format for consumers based on quality and value, and with more than 500,000 HD DVD players on the market and 500,000 returned units, it's logical to see Universal make the decision to only release Blu-ray titles going forward. |

Mabey Toshiba can't back down.
Maybey Microsoft put money up for Toshiba to stay in the war so that they can get digital downloads to rise. Apple has Apple tv. So mabey these computer companies are backing the wars so that digital downloads take over. While the war goes on they push digital downloads. THAT SUCKS! |

Toshiba and the entire HD-DVD group could ALL come out of this looking good by simply announcing that due to the overwhelming public preference for blu-ray they are moving to support that format; leaving a single HD disc format for consumers to upgrade to.
They could actually look like the "saviours" of disc based HD content by being seen to be the ones to stop the war!! Every week that goes by is more and more damaging to Toshiba as a brand. More and more companies will go blu because they see their peers and competitors doing the same; they don't want to get left behind. I'm expecting HMV and Zavvi (UK high street retailers) to annouce they will only stock blu-ray in the near future. Hopefully Best Buy equivalents like Comet and Currys will follow suit. We don't need Toshiba to give in, if the retailers drop them then they are dead in the water and there's nothing they can do about it. |

Actually I can see this statement:
We are encouraged by the fact that Universal and Paramount are going neutral. It shows this wisdom of adopting a neutral format stance and we encourage the other studios to do the same." ![]() |

And how f**king dare anyone make fun of HD DVD after everything its been through! It lost WB, it went through player returns; It has two f**king studios, its company turned out to be a loser, a cheater (i.e. Paramount deal) and now it's going through a losing battle, all you people care about is movies and buying a non profile 2.0 player, it's INHUMAN!
What you don't realise is that HD DVD is making you all these cheap players and all you do is write a bunch of c*ap about it. It hasen't done well in two years, It has more players bought because all you people want is MORE, MORE, MORE, MORE, MORE!!!!! LEAVE IT ALONE!!!!! You're lucky Toshy made them for you b***ereds! LEAVE HD DVD ALONE!!!!! Please! Microsoft talked about professionalism and if Toshiba were professionals, they would've pulled it off no matter what. Speaking of professionalism, when is it professional to publicly BASH something whos going through a bad time!? LEAVE HD DVD ALONE!!!!! Please! [sounds of crying] Leave HD DVD alone right, now! I mean it. Anyone who has a problem with it, you deal with me. Because It's not well right now [more sounds of crying]. Leave it alone. Heres the link to anyone who wants to compare the CC vid with what I just typed. |

I just read the reponse of the HD DVD Promotional Group once again (posted at HDD). Their statement is more of an acceptance of defeat than anything else. Where is the confidence? Where is the bravado? Well, who can blame them since they already know that they lost.
