Thumbs up

Day One buy for me and they could almost set their price for a full re-master.

Big fan of the Miami Vice TV series, though I only caught a handful of episodes on it's original broadcast back in the '80's. A while back, I caught the entire series on DVD & it's an amazing time capsule of a bygone era; it captures a time & place perfectly. The intro. theme song by Jan Hammer is iconic, and IMHO is one of the top five best theme songs to a TV series.

So, yes, I would definitely be onboard for a Blu set of the entire series. However, I would only be interested in this if the entire series came out on Blu; I wouldn't buy any of this on Blu until that happened; i.e., I'm not interested in a piece-meal release of only 1-2 seasons...(which is what happened with the Sopranos on Blu...until recently)...

2. Miami Vice was shot on film, not video. (that means it could've been shot in widescreen, in case you need it spelled out).

3. Miami Vice was made on NBC. (that means it''s one of the "big 3" in terms of tv channels, and thus has the kind of pull and cash that can warrant getting widescreen film instead of fullscreen film)

4. Miami Vice was one of the highest budgeted shows on tv at the time. (That means they more than likely took advantage of the money they had and went for the widescreen prints).

5. All these obvious things are also self-evidently true that spelling out why it's true seems almost redundant. But you wouldn't know that, since you obviously know nothing regarding the history of this show, and just joined in on this topic with your holier than thou attitude, as well as your internet attitude superiority complex to try to sound smart (which you didn't) and make me sound dumb (which you also didn't).

Little advice, your attitude ain't gonna help you make any friends around here. If this is your attitude on the internet, I don't wanna imagine your attitude towards people in real life.

Troll harder next time, cowboy.
Why would you think (or assume) a 4:3 TV show would suddenly be widescreen? Didn't happen for Star Trek TNG (shot on film) nor should it. Doesn't matter with junk like Friends because it's not a visual show. Didn't happen for Airwolf either, (which you are somehow complaining that it's coming to blu and not Vice, when the two are completely different networks, so they have nothing to do with each other), and it was also on one of the "big three" networks you mentioned.

Season 1 of 24 was opened up to 16x9 and you continually see cameramen and stuff you were never supposed to see. They didn't safe frame for widescreen in 1984, so this release (when it comes) will be proper OAR at 4:3, which is of course what it was composed and shot for. And I don't need "proof" of that - it was a TV show and that was the TV ratio, period.

You should take your own advice: "Your attitude ain't gonna help you make any friends around here. If this is your attitude on the internet, I don't wanna imagine your attitude towards people in real life."

LOL. Did you read the entire conversation? He was coming at me like he was some pseudo intellectual, which he wasn't. I let it go at first, but he persisted. And quite frankly, my attitude was still nice. I could've cursed him out and actually been as mean as I said I was gonna be, but I still restrained. People like that really need to have evidence of things put in their face so they'll shut up. Be it politics, religion, science, or in this case the history of the behind the scenes making of a tv show.

Oh and for the record, I don't talk about this nerdy stuff with friends. But FWIW, thank you for actually giving me some information and not saying "Oh, I'm sorry, let me explain it to you in simpler terms" and be condescending (as he did). Had he simply done what you did, we wouldn't be in this place now.

That being said, I think it really sucks that even the highest budgeted tv shows that were shot on film still don't have 16:9 prints. Miami Vice is definitely one of the best shows that should be scene that way.

After the complete series of Airwolf (an Universal series) has been released in the UK, now the complete series of Knight Rider is being released by Universal in Japan:

http://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/product/B00M3VDZZG

After this, I am convinced that Miami Vice will be released at some point.

This is great news, I am a huge fan of Knight rider too. I hope a UK release isn't too far behind.

Count me in for Miami Vice on BD. Like others have said, I would hope for all original songs to be included as well.

Is that not the case on the DVD version?

The DVDs do have the original music. The reason some of us have our doubts regarding blu-ray is because we're not sure if licensing permits the use of the songs on a new format, or if Universal would have to pay the companies yet again for use of the songs on blu-ray. It took a long time for the entire show to be released on DVD due to the music licensing (better example being "The Wonder Years"), so a lot of us here are wondering if the reason the show hasn't been released on blu is cuz it would take just as long to get the song rights again.

Amazing show, but not worth having without the original tunes. The music in Miami Vice is as vital a character as Crockett, Tubbs, or the City itself.

Agreed. A lot of the indie/underground music I listen to that has a very 80's synth sound all have a very Miami Vice/Jan Hammer influence in there.

This was a brilliant show that I would love to own on Blu-ray. Still holding out hope that it's coming.

Man! that episode "Out Where The Buses Dont Run"

great great episode. that song "Brothers in arms. Baptisms of fire" in the end.

No series may have more influence on the successive TV shows than MIAMI VICE

And that's not all: these episodes are newly remastered in high definition, which means that it's possible that down the road a bit Mill Creek could maybe give Miami Vice the same treatment we're reporting today about Airwolf - The Complete Series: a first-ever Blu-ray release!

miami vice
has been remastered in high definition and they're releasing DVDs?

in other news, studios hope UHD to flourish...

how on earth do you go on releasing a new format, when most things are still being released in the medium before the latest one?

So they put mother #$%#$ Airwolf on blu-ray, but not this. Must be the same people that think if Chris Pine gets put in enough movies he'll be a star.

I already have the complete series on DVD, but if Miami Vice is released in individual seasons on Blu-ray, I'd happily buy seasons 1-3 (I'll keep the DVD for S4-5, but the show really went into the toilet when Michael Mann left--the episode featuring James Brown as an alien is one of the worst hours ever produced for TV!). If it's only released as a complete set, well, I'd wait until there was a really good sale!
