Late 2014/beginning 2015 Psycho (1960) did get a 4k restoration.

Park Circus already has the 4K DCP.

http://www.parkcircus.com/films/20871-psycho

Last Monday I e-mailed Universal Pictures Netherlands, since we're getting a 55th Anniversary as well, just like France. Universal Pictures confirmed; it will be digitally remastered. I am only waiting for more info about the codec and the 4K Mastering, for another re-confirm. Waiting for that info. But all signs are looking good now.

The current Blu-ray is not bad at all, but it has still some damage/dirt on the print.

Thats why I didn't buy it, I have a thing against frozen grain

Me too, but it's only the opticals which take an obvious hit and that's no great loss anyway.

Apparently, one member on this forum has seen the first UK theatrical cut which was this uncensored version.
I am one of them, saw it at the London Film Festival, there's another member on here who saw it there too. I,ve also read it was uncensored during its UK theatrical release as well. The baseball bat scene is especially violent.

The rumors re the UK vhs release and Sky tv premiere first run being uncut have been dis-proven.

Hoping Scorsese pushes for these cuts to be re-instated for any future 4K remaster.

I too remember seeing it at the cinema upon release and it was gorier in my memory compared to what I saw when it hit home video. Of course, I then later found out my memory had served me correctly.

This stuff about an "uncensored" version of Psycho is silly. If you read the link, it amounts to about 17 total seconds of slightly longer held shots, including 7 more seconds of hand washing. There is no footage censored, it's just not edited as tightly. A couple more seconds of Janet Leigh's bra is the highlight.

Well, that's not unwelcome.

Unlikely to happen. Scorsese has stated (either on the audio commentary or the making of) that he never intended for the gorier shots to be used in the movie. He shot those for the MPAA as a sort of reverse psychology. He felt that if he submitted the scene (as is) the way he wanted it, the MPAA would've slapped him with an NC-17 rating until he edited it down. So he submitted the gorier version so that they would ask him to edit it down, which he did, and then when they saw the revised (current) version, they were less shocked and satisfied that it was not as "bad." According to Scorsese, what you see (or don't see) in the movie is exactly what he wanted. So, technically, it's not "censored" as it was not censored by anyone.

The 55th Anniversary edition will use the 4K restoration?
In Brazil we're going to get this new edition too.

Yep, this is the truth. In fact I believe he even said he removed some of the eye popping scene after the MPAA okay'd it, because it was still more than he wanted.

Hi, I only discovered the news of a 55 anniv. edition last night, and pre-ordered the French edition due to this thread. Do you an update or confirmation that this is indeed from the new 4K remaster ?

If it isn't, I'll cancel.

Thanks

That was the only news that could give me at the time. I sent out another e-mail, since we are getting closer to the release date. I also e-mailed Universal Pictures France couple of weeks ago, no reply back too.

Since you are from France, maybe you make a phone call to Universal Pictures France?

Will do.

From experience, the big studios over here don't respond but I'll try.

True. I saw the (very slightly) longer version in Germany and even though I've seen Psycho many times, I didn't notice the additions as they are so minor.

You're wrong. The cuts may be minor but they are censor cuts. The footage may seem tame today but in 1960 this stuff was shocking. A woman with an unfastened bra? Unheard of. Someone being stabbed three times? Outrageous. Blood on hands? Gross. You may not think this footage matters, but that doesn't mean it's irrelevant.

It's relevant and I enjoyed seeing it in the documentary, but it's not really important to me that it be edited back into the film.
