So it's a BD/DVD combo pack.

IMO there is no question it will. I anticipate the best looking and sounding Blu to date.

It could, but I'm thinking that people that don't normally buy movies will buy it on DVD, lowering the Blu market share. I see it getting 30-35% Blu share.

WHAT!

Why would a studio thrown a free DVD along with a Blu-ray? So that we can just give it away to a non-Blu friend?

.

Cause not everyone has a Blu-Ray player in every room. And there's laptops and such.

Besides, there's a good chance that will help sales.

Since people who haven't gone HI-DEF yet might still buy the BLU since it has a DVD.

There's been a lot of new movies coming with DVD copys, and the practice will likely continue/increase.

Think of families that have portable dvd players in their cars. If they want to watch a movie on the trip, they have to buy a 2nd DVD copy bcs they can't play the blu-ray. Having the DVD in the blu-ray package (a separate disc, not a hybrid) makes a huge difference to consumers like this who may want to take a movie on the road or on a trip to the beach house etc. where a blu-ray player may not be provided.

I wish, but every person i met who has not upgraded to Blu yet seems to be scared of it and it small plastic blue case. I am not kidding i know someone who paid more for Marley & Me on DVD instead of just getting it on Blu where it was a little cheaper.

I think it will sell truck loads of BDs the first week...but I don't think the market share will be above 35%....simply because of the massive amount of DVDs it will sell as well.

I'm willing to be proved wrong though

I guess it's a strategy that the studio has in mind; a bluray and dvd combo. Once you're in for the dvd, wouldn't you'll be tempted into buying a bluray player since you have got a copy of the the bluray in hand already??

I think the idea of the DVD with the blu ray is great. That way you can take it on the road or if a friend wants to borrow it you can oblige them. I think most blu rays should start doing this. It be a great marketing idea and would help sales, but that's just me.

I would have liked to see Avatar become the first movie to release only on Blu-ray. I think since they are doing a blu-ray/dvd combo pack now that they should just make that the only release, no dvd only. Everyone who buys would then own the blu-ray as well and probably keep saying "man, I wonder how much better it looks and sounds on blu-ray" while staring at their copy. They will eventually give in to the temptation and go buy a blu-ray player. Mission accomplished.

Warner is supposedly going to be releasing all of their new releases like that starting soon (if it didn't start already).
