Eddysnake,

I recommend you get a few sample parts of movies and listen to them with your current sub. Then once the PA-120 arrives, you listen to them again.... and get blown away. Here is my list that I used.

1. Skadoosh (Kunfu-Panda) this is one of the best tests for a sub (IMO)
2. Ironhide flip scene (Transformers) - very low part my old sub didn't even play
3. Dark Knight Hospital explosion. Shakes the whole house.

There are countless more examples - I suggest trying a few. Once you get your sub, all your old movies come to life.... they are "new" since you never heard 1/2 the sounds!

Good luck.

My wife is not going to like me for a week or two once this thing arrives! Saving Private Ryan coming out next week probably isn't going to help much either. I may have to save the tests for a night when she's working!

Eddy, you're from my neck of the woods. It should be there by Saturday. Just make sure someone is home though as someone needs to sign for it.

Default "Armageddon"

Getting ready to throw this in shortly, LOUDLY I might add (my neighbor seems to be away on Vacation ).

I'll report back later on the Audio & how my "Dualies" (2 PA-120's) performed.

Default "Armageddon" - Review

Okay, first of all, this film is REFERENCE QUALITY AUDIO all the way, featuring some very Intense Low-End. Of note, are Two Chest-Thumping TOP NOTCH LFE scenes: the first one at 42:54 when a 3-4 Story tall Solid STEEL metal door closes during their training at NASA, & again at 2:19:00 (almost at the end of the 2hr 23min. movie), when the Nuke goes off on the Asteroid. This one is Right up there with the infamous "SKADOOOOSSSHHHH" of Kung Fu Panda, the hospital explosion of TDK, Sonic Cannons on the campus in The Incredible Hulk, you name it. Unlike AVATAR, where I really had the Volume blasting Quite Loud at -14 ( ), for this one it was at -18, which was surprisingly More than enough. It's one of those Very Loud AUDIO Tracks, akin to my personal favorite, "HELLBOY II", in terms of Extremely LOUD recorded films. (tho' I did turn it up to -16 near the end for when the Nuke went off ).

The PQ is Very Very Solid. Even though not on par with the Perfection in the PQ of AVATAR, I'm still giving it a 5 of 5. ARMAGEDDON looks as great as it sounds; this is one beautiful Transfer. Your Eyes will dance in as much as your Ears will twitch with excitement. For those of you with Large SCREENS, prepare for a visual feast. But again, Video quality aside, the Audio is top of the line. As much Mayhem goes on thru-out, Center dialogue is never compromised. You hear everything spoken, or shouted, Crystal Clear. Surround activity is off the charts as well. My 2 front T90e's also had their moments in the sun, matching the 4 FXiA3's for performance. Left/Right seperation was beautifully produced.

As noted above, whether you like the movie or not, hate or love Michael Bay's style, etc., this is one fun thrill ride IMO. Remember, as far as Summer Popcorn movies go, this one is right up there for having a good time. Some love to nitpick every little thing ("that aint real", "they'd Never do that!"), but every now & then, for ME, I just want to watch a Fun Action flick. This one fits the bill. Is it perfect? No, of course not. A bit too syrupy at times, some "ok" CGI (mostly when they're on the Asteroid), but hey: Any movie that has 2 of 4 Classic "AEROSMITH" tunes in it, is alright by me, with "Come Together" & "Sweet Emotion", (plus "What Kind of Love Are You On" a Great funky Nasty 70's throwback with that Classic Tyler/Perry Swagger, & unfortunately for most of us Huge Aerosmith fans, "Dont' Wanna Miss A Thing", the obligatory cheesy love ballad) --- You also get a bit of Bob Seger, Bon Jovi, ZZ Top, & Journey.

Here are My final numbers:

"ARMAGEDDON"
Movie: 4 of 5
Audio: 5 of 5
Video: 5 of 5

Lol, no problem. You'll enjoy ARMAGEDDON soon enough buddy. I can't Wait for "THE ABYSS" to come out on bluray; it's one of my All-time Favorite flicks by James Cameron.

** Edit: Just saw Your edit about the reviewer on this site vice my review. Yea, they only gave the AQ & PQ 4 of 5, but IMO -- The Audio ROCKED my HT & is an Extremely Impressive Video transfer as well (& LOUD, did I say that this is one VERY VERY LOUD Audio track??!! Lol). **

You may have been thinking of APOLLO 13, tho' there is 2 launches in ARMAGEDDON when the 2 shuttles take off. APOLLO 13 obviously had no Shuttles being launched.

Well I don't own a PA-120 but installed one today for my uncle. I will say it's a great subwoofer for it's price point. Excellent bang for the buck and that is why I recommended it to him over a Polk sub he first ordered. Very nice looking sub as well. He bought the cherry to match his Jamo's. I sure this sub will sound even better with a little break in as well.
