If you can rip it to your server what is to stop you from throwing it up on a exchange site? Really not many here are going to buy the i want to take up hundreds of gigs of hard drive space to save 3 seconds of time from simply putting the disc into the drive. Not to mention what would stop people from renting them and ripping them and not having to spend but 5 bucks to rent it? Your excuse is weak and wont cut it, you want something these days you buy it, if you want to steal it i don't think you will find many sympathetic for your cause here on a pro blu-ray site!

As an aside, if you think you'll have less hurdles to overcome with a software based DRM solution, you won't .

Consider the efforts you gotta go through to stream music from iTunes to a media server that isn't Apple iTV.

Blurip-

I understand that you want to watch movies your way. There is some give&take though. If you want to backup your movies then you have to go DVD and HD DVD. If HD DVD puts protection into their discs, that leaves you with DVD. I know you know that, but if you want HD content you might have to make some sacrifices.

I didn't even read everyone's response to this topic because quite honestly, it is the most ridiculous excuse for not wanting to purchase something I have ever heard in my life....

The fact that Fox wants to keep their AVC encoded 1080P with 5.1 - 7.1 loseless audio locked up is extremely justified...

Lets just say for a second that you are not a digital thief wanting to rent movies from Blockbuster and then ripping them to your harddrive... What about all of the hundreds of thousands of people who will do that?

Should fox make YOU a special Bluray without BD+ so that you can back the movies up on your harddrive...

Not that its true, but you sound like a TROLL to be quite honest. Consumer friendly? Since when does consumer friendly mean open to abuse and piracy??

Then you start talking about it not playing on some players? Please, that's passive aggresive trolling. We understand that the movie doesn't play on some players, but thats the players fault, not Fox's.

Just because HD-DVD is "consumer friendly" aka, completely easy to rip and never have to purchase, doesn't make it better...

Ask the Dreamcast and Sega what happens when your media is easily ripped, people were throwing those GD-ROMS onto CDS and playing the games flawlessly.

BD+ plus is a step foward for Bluray, and I hope it will entice more studios to offer more support to Bluray because their investment is well protected.

Of course, this poster is just trying to spread his own style of FUD.

Look it comes down to this.......say you worked your ass off on something and then you mass market it to make money...would you want some ******* to copy what you did illegally?

You're not allowed to "back up" HD DVDs either!

Simple as that. Your entire complaint is predicated on the fact that you can't do something that is technically illegal. In other words, you're upset because a couple discs from one format isn't allowing you to do something that you shouldn't be doing anyway.

You must not have kids!

I used to do this to take DVDs in the SUV I no longer own.

But to do this to protect disks from scratching that has already a great protection barrier is not doing your homework about the format.

However, having a HD movie server does sound like a cool idea.
A HTPC running something like LinuxMCE and reading HD isos (currently only DVDs are supported) sounds very tempting.
Lots of space needed for HD movies though.

blurip,

How much storage do you have? I would imagine you would need a ton to rip all of your movies to a media server.

I think you are missing the point. Blurip agrees (apperantly) that stealing is wrong, and that pirating movies is illegal. Blurip just wants to enjoy his movies, his way. He knows that he cannot do that with blu-ray and he is ok with that. Nobdy here is going to convince him to start buying blu-ray. Also, a lot of people missed his other complaint, that the blu-ray hardware is too expensive, not much to counter with there. The prices will be coming down, I just hope that Blurip (I believe it is not blu RIP, but blu rip-on-to-my-computer, at least I hope) takes the leap and starts to enjoy his movies with the best possible picture and audio quality. If blurip thinks that HD DVD's audio is just as good, he should go ask Optimus Prime.

He is not trolling. He has not once called blu-ray stupid. He has yet to insult us. He is merely making a point about his preferences. He hasn't tried to cause trouble, most of you are giving him trouble though. Cool out and listen to the man. Have a dialogue with him, we may all learn something.

So why do you have an XBOX 360, you can't "back up" those games can you???

Open your mind

Someone I know saw a supposedly ripped BD on a certain site for download. There were several comments by people amused with the idea of how long it would take to download 50GB. That would take up a lot of space on a hard drive. It isn't worth it. I would rather own the disc and all the liner notes that come with it.

It's more to do with region encoding, not piracy. They will not release movies on HD DVD because people in other countries can order them and play them in their HD DVD players while the movies are still playing at the theatres where they resides.
