From my understanding your receiver needs to be able to output PCM audio.

Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Unless you use analog outs, or an HDMI connection you can't get more than stereo from PCM tracks

Correcting...

Most receivers output analog signal, not PCM. PCM is the digital audio signal. CD audio is PCM but what you hear is the converted PCM to analog signal. But you're vaguely in that area.

In order for the OP to listen to 5.1 uncompressed, you either need a BD player with 5.1 analog output (which excludes the PS3) and a receiver with 5.1 analog input, or a HDMI connection between the player (which includes the PS3) and the receiver.

If your BD player/PS3 is connected to your receiver via optical or coax digital in, you'll only get a PCM digital stereo signal. You can still get surround sound if you enable your receiver's Dolby ProLogic decoding for that signal.

Default Fung Fu Hustle - HK Edition - uncut/uncensored?

Does anyone know if the Hong Kong edition of the movie is uncensored?

DDDhouse.com has it listed as an Asian blu-ray release...

http://www.dddhouse.com/v3/product_l...CategoryID=290

Thanks!

Default Kung Fu Hustle Region A - How to tell the difference?

Apart from the Japanese version which has a different cover, the Americas and South East Asian versions look the same even though the SEA version has the uncut version that Region B versions have. Yes, this title is Region ALL.

So for the owners of Americas and SEA versions, please scan the back cover, including the UPC and perhaps write down the details of the disc numbers. Maybe the UPC will be different.

I would like to get the uncut/SEA version.

SPHE should first remaster this excellent title as the Blu-ray PQ was only average. 16.5 Mbps for a MPEG-2 encode ain't a good figure for BD.

I know about the differences in the film.

What I want to know is how to tell the difference from the COVER of the BD as the Americas and SEA versions are the SAME.

That's quite difficult.

The U.K / E.U / JP BD cover art is slightly better looking than the U.S. But info on the backside will mostly probably won't indicate if it's cut or not.

Ah, thanks for that link. I figured it out.

The Americas have these for subtitles: Subtitles:
English, English HoH, French, Arabic, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Norwegian, Polish, Swedish, and Turkish

The uncut Korean version: Subtitles:
English, Portuguese, Traditional Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Spanish, and Thai

Now all I need is for scans or pix of the back of these versions. I believe I have seen the SEA version of this here but at over US$40.

Sorry if I bring this threat back from the dead, but I recently watched my copy of Kung Fu Hustle (a friend visited and picked it from my collection) and we watched it with the original Catonese track and we realized (We were watched using a CIH movie set up) that the subtitles were in the black bar, not in the picture, it was problematic because using the V stretch mode stretches the picture to use the whole image for Cinemascope, and using an anamorphic lens to stretch the picture to restore the geometry, I love this method, I hate that Sony, forgets us CIH users that watch foreign films. My real question is there a version of Kung Fu Hustle that puts the subtitles in the picture, not the black bar?

I have the Hong Kong BD for Kung Fu Hustle and its uncut and has the lossy DD Cantonese 5.1 track (640kbs) for systems without PCM 5.1 equipment.

The subitltes are outside of the picture frame though.

You are kidding, right?

There is nothing wrong with the PQ or AQ of this film, and there are tonnes of extras included as well.

PQ: 5

AQ: 5

Extras: 4 (because there not in HD)

Why in the name of the holy chickpea should there be a remaster????????

Because of a few moments of missing blood spills?

I, for one, am happy it's without it.

a new video codec and higher bitrate on a BD-50 would be nice. but as for the current disc, looks and sounds great to me.

The UK version can be had for a decent price. And it's region free. What sucks is that Shaolin Soccer is region locked in the UK.
