Relax PrinceLH. Blu-Ray's only two years old. DVD's were $30+ within the first few years of their release. Either this year or 2009's holiday season will see a price decrease.

Give it time.

Of course there are no wicked sales right now. The holiday season was five months ago, and midspring/summer is the time when sales are always lackluster, for any electronics. Just keep your eyes peeled on Amazon. You never know when a great deal will pop up.

Default You should try UK prices

I think you guys / gals in the USA / Canada have been spoiled over the years. You should try UK prices... not just for Blu-rays but absolutely everything.

Just an example off amazon.com:

Sony ES STR-DA5300ES Home theater receiver: $(US)1,349.99

...and the same item from superfi.co.uk: £1,099.95 = $(US) 2,157.65 @ 1 USD = 0.509790 GBP

... or what about petrol (Gas) at $(US)9.35 a gallon!!!

You don't know you are born as far as prices are concerned.

And, it isn't like they pay you twice as much.

It seems pretty common to pay £1 there for what costs a $1 here in Canada.

At least you have Universal free health-care and more weeks of holiday time. We, poor bastards in North America, have to work more hours and more weeks, for un-even healthcare, that is not free. For my Canadian brothers and sisters, no it's not free, we pay the health tax, user fees and many procedures are not covered, under current health-care doctrine. Our once vaunted healthcare system is on the rocks. Welcome to globalization. Lowest common denominator wins. We are all a commodity!

And this is what they say "Who wants to spend 400 on a player, that isnt even that better than DVD?" "Why are the movie 34.99 at Best Buy CC, and Target?" "Theres not that big a difference jeez" "That is nice but im not wasting my money on that until there cheaper"

THis is the BS i have to hear but this is the average consumer.

Default Stupid Prices

When will these STUPID prices CEASE!!!

$27.95 for AVP - Requiem?

C'mon already...BluRay won now celebrate and keep all BluRays under $20.

Motley Crue had a problem with the keeping it under $20 but I won't mind paying a bit over $20 for that one...it is a great concert disc and glad to have it...especially for the Tommy Lee Titty cam...

That is much better than the prices I''ve been seeing. Blockbuster is selling it for $39.99 But even $28 is too high for that movie. I watched it today and was shaking my head in disgust most of the time. Such an implausible premise. How did so many aliens grow to full size in just a few hours? How did the Predator spacecraft get from Saturn to Earth in minutes or hours??? I could go on and on...But it's pretty sad when this movie makes AvP1 look oscar-worthy. I am very disappointed.

Same here... and getting worse all the time.

I could rant... but I'm being incredibly good and staying away from such topics

I've never had to pay more that $30 for any of my BD's including Close Encounters, which tends to run a little more. Amazon feeds my addiction well.

Hell, even Amazon is not offering much of a discount these days. Since the demise of DUD, no BOGO's, no discounts, no dice from me. How the hell can you compete with DVD, with pricing like this?

Target has specials at 19.99 and you can use there 5 dollar coopon on top of that. I would say only the wealthy can afford 34.99. I can only afford 20 bucks.

Default Fox is taking advantage of us!

Since we already have a thread bashing WB for doing the same thing except with audio, I thought I might shift some focus to Fox. I was intent today on buying some BD's, went to BB and saw that Predator and Commando were both $35!!! You might be saying, 'well, Caj, you got 'em in your sig.' Correct you are. I left BB and went to Target figuring something might be different over there. Much to my surprise, there was a slew of $20 titles and these two were two such of them. But also, you might be saying, 'this has been the case for a while now, Caj, why complain all of a sudden?' I turn the case over and I see Special Features: D-Box Motion Control Enhanced; Theatrical Trailer in HD. Not only are the special features lacking, the movie which is old and should without a doubt include an AVC video codec transfer contains an Mpeg-2 instead. And they can't say that there trying to 'at least break even on them' because (and this is the part that pisses me of the most), it's on a BD-25!!! Just my rant for the day.

Fox BDs are the most expensive out there, they are th most anal as well when it comes to copyright protection. I am not sure this will change especially if people buy them without hesitation on release day

I have been critical of Fox's catalog prices, but that is NOT the same thing as "taking advantage of us". As consumers we make purchases because we perceive we are getting something of value in exchange. I have no regrets about any of my Blu-ray purchases, and that is NOT the typical reaction of an individual that is being conned.

The thing with this is patience.

If ya hang back and wait a tick, the proces go down. You will always find a great price on the net.

The real deal (I think this effects us all) is the day of release.
It sucks that they have to get their whole waad in until the price drops, but that's the beauty of capitolism.

I hear ya and I wish they would release cheaper, BUT...they always seem to get cheaper anyway.

My first two Blus were GhostRider and The Devil Wears Prada.
When I bought them (june '07) I was watching those two movies daily...alll the time. I paid $35.00 each for them and now they are $15-20.

The thing is, I've enjoyed them for almost a year now...so...ya kinda can't put a price on that.

I do hear ya though.

Shop around. There are deals to be had even on the high priced Fox titles.

Buying from B&M stores right now should be your last option for some titles.

As for the bare bones titles. Yeah, it sucked they did that for Predator and Commando.

But that's why I kept my 2-DVD set of Predator and won't rebuy it until we get the SE.

Yeah, it's not like they're trying to get by with anything. The video codec and bitrate are clearly listed on the back as well as the "extras" if any. Everyone knows the deal and you have a choice, buy it or don't buy it.

I understand the complaint though but I don't think "taking advantage of us" is the right wording for it.

Anyway, they're one of my favorite studios. It's hard for me to be upset with them when they've been doing a great job of releasing a lot of my favorites on blu-ray.

If you think Fox's BD prices are high, I suggest that you visit a local gas station. Blu-rays are cheaper than filling up your gas tank.
