Well Firefly required you to use your brain, cost a lot of money to produce

Jersey Shore is perfect for today,s society and our lack of thinking and is cheap to produce.

It's all about money now a days and not quality. Wheedon should have pitch Firefly to HBO, would have been on for thrre or four seasons and would have been a wonderful produce show.

Not to mention, if it was on HBO we'd have gotten a naked Kaylee and Inara (Especially Inara! Given her profession and all)! I kid, I kid..... But you know you Can't have an HBO show without everyone doin' it

I'm still mad at HBO for cancelling 'Bored To Death'.

Hate to say it, but comparing Firefly to that peice of crap Jersey Shore is an insult to Firefly. Firefly is not a reality series. I would compare Firefly to other shows of its same genre ... sheesh ...

Jersey Shore is about muscle headed, braindead morons who couldn't act their way out of a paper bag and Snookie is what happens when you smoke too much crack. bahhh

Personally, I think Battlestar Galactica is a better series. I think Firefly could've been a better show had it lasted a few more seasons. Firefly started to really take off towards the end and then they suddenly pulled the plug.

It's the fault of Fox Studios. Not only did they broadcast the series out of order, it had a sporadic broadcast schedule, pre-empted by broadcast sports, and the victim of interference by studio execs who had no faith in the series.

What made it even worse is that Fox didn't realize its mistake until after the series was released to DVD. It became a cult hit and Fox ended up selling a crapload of DVD sets and they realized that it was a mistake to cancel the series. But, then, it was too late. Whedon had taken the project to Universal, who produced a movie. The movie tanked at the theater but it went on to make a lot of money on DVD and Blu-ray.

There's still rumors that there could be a "direct-to-video" sequel but it's all in the wind.

I like BSG but I love Firefly, that cast, the humor, the stories, not a single bad story in all those 14 episodes. Still miss it.

It was most noticeable in "Out of gas", in the first flash back between Mal and Zoe for instance, or when River talks to Book and leaves.

I compared the scenes with my old dvd set and none of these noises/sound effects were present. Maybe it sounds different with a home cinema, I only use my tv's speakers. I'm guessing it's because of the new DTS track, they reworked the mix, but it really bothers me. It doesn't sound very professional, like the balance is wrong. I checked on a different tv, and on my computer, same thing.

Did anyone notice that before ?

Just watched Out of Gas again on Blu-Ray, and the audio issue is still there. I checked a BR-rip (mkv) online and the weird noises were there as well, so it's not my copy or my equipment.
Just check the part from 16min20 to 16min45 and you'll hear a weird rubbing sound, and it's not on the dvd, I did the comparison. I noticed similar noise issues several times in that episode and in Objects in Space as well.

I find that very annoying, doesn't it bother anyone else?

Do the people with a sound system hear that noise as well? or is it just when it's played in stereo?

I've owned this set for years but just watched it all for the first time recently. Discovered a defect where there's a perfect symmetrical long scratch in the disc and it screws up a couple of episodes.

Do you think I could contact Fox and get a replacement disc? I still have the receipt. But its hella old.

Studios sometimes replace scratched discs for people, but I do think it's rare. Luckily this show is super cheap on BD pretty regularly.

What I have looks like a scratch right underneath the surface like a manufacturing error but it also fits the circular curvature of the inside of the case where the swinging 'shelf' can make an impression into the disc its touching. It was like this right out of the case. It was most definitely not something I did. The only way I could scratch any of my discs is if I'm analyzing for scratches and then see a fuzz and try to wipe it away, thus accidentally scratching in the process; I'm extremely careful with my collection.

Is this getting a reprint? Out of stock for a while at the usual suspects.

I still need to replace my copy that has a terminal freeze in the pilot as well as numerous skips in Heart of Gold. The only dud I got from Hastings.
