Thanks for the help. IMGBURN is Windows, so that won't work for me. I was able to extract the "_AH_" file and I tried the Finder's Burn which created another data disc. I tried in Disk Utility, but it wouldn't let me burn the file as an image. I don't understand why Sony won't make it easier for Mac users and let us download the image file, but I give up.

I just ordered the BDP-S350 and when that gets here, I'm taking the 300 back to the store. It seems that with the 350, I'll be able to download updates directly over the internet.

A replacement disc for Vantage Point from Netflix did the trick; the first one was definitely defective.

Maybe you did get a bad disc.
Thanks man! I just went to the store and exchanged it for a new copy of Batman Begins, and it was a bad disc.
Funny that other guy had Vantage Point defective and now I with Batman, aren't they manufactured to the highest standard possible?

The imax TDK is just TOO SWEET!!!

Have you upgraded your firmware? Mine was upgraded and the first copy of BB didn't work. They checked the disc at the store and indeed, it was a bad disc. Now, the second disc, it works perfectly, but I don't know if you need a firmware update for this title. Anyway, try it with 3.95, if you still get a bad reading, then there are really some bad discs out there.

The latest firmware patch fixed the problems with the "D-Files" bonus feature on Enchanted. Great to have that disc functional for the first time.

I just signed up for this forum to see if anyone had problems with Batman Begins and lo and behold... Haha. Glad I'm not the only one! I've just downloaded the 3.95 firmware, but I'm having trouble getting the player to recognize the disc. Should the player start updating once it reads the disc? Is there something you have to do to prompt it? I apologize if I'm asking a question that has already been answered.

Also, I've just tried to make a new disc using ImgBurn and it wouldn't burn the update. I kept getting errors saying it was an invalid or unsupported image file format. The firmware is an .exe file... any suggestions?

Run the .exe, this should extract an .iso. Burn the .iso using ImgBurn.

The BDP-S300 can be tempermental at times; especially if you try to perform an operation such as changing the audio track before you are permitted.

The other day I did just that and next thing you know, Batman Begin starts momentarily freezing despite having played the disc without problem several times. I ended up shutting the machine completely off and then everything was fine.

As for firmware updates, it's imperative that keep the machine up-to-date to minimize disc problems.

Otherwise; when it's good, it's very very good.

The problem player, in the above message, should definitely be sent to Sony for repair. Perhaps the laser is misaligned.

Default Dolbly True Hd

I have the question does the BDP300 plays dolby true hd or it doesn't, i read that the firmware 3.70 gave true hd pass throw PCM with HDMI, I have the firmware 3.95 and have tried that and i didn't notice any diference betwen DD AND DOLBY TRUE HD, it is now the bdp 300 playing true HD or not, and if is so , how do i get the true HD from the bdp300.

Thank you

An industry insider (Paidgeek who posts on AVS forum) has confirmed that TrueHD decoding was added to the 300 with FW 3.7 as an unannounced enhancement. If you call Sony tech support, they will tell you that TrueHD decoding doesn't exist on the 300. Depends on who you want to believe. I think the insider has it right. My experience in dealing with the tech support people of the various CE companies is that they usually know very little about their product and often give bad or wrong information/advice (that's what you get when you outsource this service).

To get TrueHD, you need to set the 300 audio output to PCM and then select the TrueHD soundtrack on the BD. The 300 will decode the TrueHD track and send it as PCM via HDMI to your AVR. Note that if you have a decoding AVR, you will not see any TrueHD light up since the track is already decoded as pcm.
