and guess what I loved the TV version of it directed by "Alan Smithee." My Dad also really liked the TV version.

I have a version of the TV edit on DVD which came in a steelbook.

We read the book in my sci-fi lit class in high school, then watched the movie in class. Thoroughly enjoyed both experiences.

If you read the thread you will discover that edit came out in Germany in a 2-disc set which was cheap too at the time. Dont know about now though...

My French is bad, but it reads something like:

I hate the fact that Universal jacked up the volume of the 5.1 track on the BD.

It clips like crazy in places. It sounds way better on the HD-DVD.

Hopefully Arrow will address that on their upcoming release.

I didn't think so. I remember when the BD was released I thought that it sounded much better than the HD DVD.

I used to have that steelbook. I tired to sell it and Decluttr didn’t even give me any money. It’s worth something now, is it ?

I still prefer the quieter, more dynamic presentation on the HD-DVD personally.

There's definitely been some unnecessary dynamic range compression applied to the BD.

But hey, to each their own.

No, to make it perfect they have to include the Spicediver cut. They have released a fanedit of "Waterworld" before and if there is ONE fanedit that deserve's an official release it is Spcediver's "Dune Redux".

Is the longer cut of Waterworld a true "fanedit", though? Isn't it just an Extended Cut of the film created by Universal initially for network and cable broadcasts?

The official extended cut is a TV version with the language and violence toned down. The fanedit restores the language and violence to the extended cut.

Preordered the super deluxe 4k steellbook ed. from Grindhouse. A most confusing release at first glance but my little brain finally sorted out which version i wanted to get ultimately.
I wish the Steelbook version i ordered had the theatrical and the new worm art on box or the steel.
