We had a load of posters in our loft and they all disappeared, along with toys and comicbooks. The posters might have been worth a bit as they were from the 40s and 50s, but I have no idea what they were or their condition. I think there was a King Kong in there somewhere ...

The moral is unless your loft is finished and easily accessible, never put anything up there. Things are better these days with plastic tubs but when your prized possessions are in crappy cardboard boxes and there's insulation flying around, you have no idea where anything is or if it's been half-inched by unscrupulous visitors ...

Damn. Now I want ARROW to release MANHUNTER on BD. Tempted to buy the US of A Shout!/Scream! release but that quad poster is great. Also really like the USA single sheet. Obviously for the '80s-ness of it.

Also love this poster for THE THING. Especially gives a sense of "WTF am I looking at?" regarding the red bits. Gives off an aura of foreboding doom. Also reminds me of the great comics artist John Bolton.

I would guess Universal requires it be censored or only provides that version. I'm sure Shout would have used the uncensored version if they could have.

That UK poster art is by the great Les Edwards, who also illustrated things like the brilliant graphic novels of Son of Celluloid and Rawhead Rex.

Brian Taylor has done some very nice genre film art, http://candykiller.bigcartel.com/ his Thing poster is well worth the money. Mondo has done quite a few posters, but the textless Struzan prints are the ones that fetch big money these days as they look great. What I'd like for the Arrow edition is the textless Struzan image with the text printed on a clear vinyl slipcover.

If you want long term secure poster storage, plastic plumbing and drain pipes are great value for money, just cut them to length and use plumbing end caps. Wrapping the posters in acid free tissue first will prevent any possible discolouration and a bag of silica gel will prevent damp.

It's easily obtainable from DVD so the only issue would be Universal specifically saying 'no, you can't use it'.

You know, considering that there are many various posters and artworks of The Thing, Arrow should maybe do a Limited Slipbox edition, both for old times sake, and to satisfy everyone for artwork.

So now that this is happening, Escape from New York and They Live are the Carpenter films I'd really like to see get the Arrow treatment. A man can dream...

They'd have to pry the rights out of StudioCanal's cold dead hands first, along with The Fog. The heck of it is, StudioCanal will probably give them natty new 4K makeovers at some point....but would then bork them with a crapola encode.

It's getting to the point where we'll start saying bad encodes of new 4K scans have "been rinsed in the Canal ..." and bad artefacts are called "shopping trolleys and mattresses."

Oh, I know StudioCanal aren't likely to give them up. But then, we never thought this was going to happen either, right? Yet here we are, so things could change... however unlikely that "could" is.

And yeah, there's that too. They've been remastering some titles, and these seem like prime candidates, but then they'd muck them up with crappy encodes. Oh well, even if that's what it comes down to, it's hard for them to be anything but improvements over what they already put out. That's always something, I guess...

The US poster art is so iconic to me if this comes in a normal Arrow case and doesn't have that art on the reverse I might put it in Shout's packaging. I would bet dollars to donuts this gets a Donnie Darko style LE anyway though.

At least Arrow already have an 'in' with Universal though e.g. The Burbs, it was more that we always assumed that Universal would never give up The Thing to an outside vendor. Once Shout got a hold of it then we should've known an Arrow version was more likely than not.

Heh, and if Arrow announce a UK edition of Carrie (they're quite cosy with MGM too) then watch the FB pages explode with nonsense again...but I'd love to see what Arrow could do with the raw scans that Shout carried out.

They could package it in a chip wrapper just as long as they unleash a proper 4K remaster on it.

We're moving very rapidly toward catalog movies being licensed for the most part. Even a year ago I would never have thought The Thing would be a licensing title, but here it is. Next year maybe it will be Jaws. Who the hell knows now.

Yep, it's a brave new world alright. It just seems like it'd take a major turn of events for StudioCanal to hand over the UK rights to something they own.
