Yes, Alves really hit the jackpot with Parker's outstanding contribution. It's easily my most listened-to score of the series and Intrada's expanded edition CD gets probably the heaviest rotation of my entire collection. I never tire of it. It's the one aspect of Jaws III that's a bona fide slam dunk and it elevates the movie tremendously. But yeah, "truly a bad movie" and "guilty pleasure" pretty much says it all.

In my world, money shouldn't be spent to restore bad movies.

What a strange statement to make. Thank God we don't live in your world. Some of us actually don't think Jaws 3 is a bad movie, just not a great one. :/

Do I jest, though? I sorta do, but I think this film is a prime example of where the new AI technology would be welcome. In its present state, AI ain't quite there (although I have no issue with "The Abyss" or "Titanic") but when it is fully up to snuff it should be applied to movies like this.

nothing makes me think someone doesn’t know anything about movies than saying “they should use AI” for any reason. but especially for restorations.

I've always been a big fan of Jaws 3. As a follow up to the first two films (especially the first) it's a big step down but with the right mindset as an 80s B-movie creature feature it's a blast. It's in the same arena as Alligator and Piranha (original and 2010 remake). It has a cool 70s Irwin Allen disaster film vibe goin' on. I'm a huge fan of the score too. They should've left the Brody kids out of it though and had them as completely different characters. The plot didn't need that association with the first 2 films.

Looks more real that the one that breaks the glass in the movie.

Thankfully that's not how it is in our world. And who gets to decide what's bad?

Yeah, film like all art is subjective. One man's trash is another man's treasure. And I think we all have our guilty pleasures; works we recognize as perhaps being somewhat lacking in quality, but they still have some kind of appeal in spite of - or because of - this.

Plus a film can be culturally and historically significant even if it's widely considered bad. Jaws 3 is a sequel to Jaws, one of the biggest movies of all time. That alone qualifies it as something worth preserving in my view.

I have mixed feelings... I think that kind of thing can have its uses when it comes to doing a HD remaster of an anime series from the late '90s-'00s that's stuck in SD. But should it be used on something like Jaws 3? Or is it better to just leave it looking like it does, warts and all?

If they did a "cleaned up via AI" version it might be worth preserving the original alongside it. Give us a choice of which one to watch.

This movie is pure commercialism and its appeal lies largely in nostalgia. To be the kindest one can be, it can at best be considered commercial art. That means if AI can clean it up to make it commercially viable again, that's still sticking well within the bounds of commercial art. Besides, watching it in anything other than 3D is a compromise of its original form.

3D crosstalk is an issue with the display though, not the disc. Higher contrast images and stronger separation of left/right elements make it more noticeable, but crosstalk is an issue with the display device, which is why active sets have much more crosstalk than passive. The same discs that gave me lots of crosstalk on my old Samsung and Panasonic active sets give me little to no crosstalk on my LG passive set.

Would've liked to see JAWS 3-D done via one of those new anaglyphic 3-D versions the 3-D Film Archive has been making lately. Sure it's the old process but their modern rendering system really works well, and wouldn't be a bad thing to have as an alternate viewing option.

If you watch any 3D blu-ray using older versions of Cyberlink PowerDVD through version 19 (they removed 3D support from version 20 up and all updates to previous versions after April 2020) there's a real-time anaglyph option to display the film in anaglyph while playing. It worked incredibly well so it's a crying shame they dropped the feature from newer versions of their software.

A link to their announcement about dropping 3D support:
