Quote:
Half of Avatar Preorders Are for the Blu-ray
Posted March 26, 2010 09:37 AM by Juan Calonge

During the recent Avatar press event, James Cameron stated that about 50% of Avatar presales are for the Blu-ray version, a much higher percentage than the 15% usually seen on other titles. The filmmaker said that the public is "definitely excited about the Blu-ray release and pre-selecting for the most premium version in which they can see Avatar in a home environment."

As to how that percentage would ultimately translate to total sales, Cameron couldn't say, at this point. "We'll find out in a month."

James Cameron saw a parallel between this situation and what happened when the movie was released theatrically: while Avatar was being "wildly" pirated, "people were lining up and we were selling out in theaters." He concluded: "I think the wider public has made a decision that they want that premium experience."

Was going to get this, but now I'm wondering if I should wait till November for the extras since I probably would want to have them when they're released...hmmm...

Everyone should BOYCOT this first release since it has NO special features or extras. They want everyone to DOUBLE-DIP when the other version is released with all the extra's in November.

They are trying to PLAY all of us and get more money out of us. If this works, imagine how many other companies will start doing the same thing.

I say BOYCOT and DONT BUY A SINGLE ONE.

Show them that we are not stupid, mindless drones who will buy anything they give us.

Less than a month away. I can't wait!
This is probably the only newer BD release I look forward to all year.

Some of us want the movie, not the "special features or extras" that we may never watch.

I'm happy they are using the full potential of the BD for sound and picture quality.

Why would we want to boycott the release, if we love the film?

I'm more than used to double dips of major films like this. It was done all the time on DVD.

I'm just happy to be getting the movie now, rather than being forced to wait for the SE in November.

I'll happily buy any and all versions of the film. It was one of my favorite movies of all time.

So then don't double dip

We have all the facts...I don't see how they are trying to "play" us at all....

We aren't the majority of Blu-ray buyers here, if we combined all of the users from AVS, Highdefdigest and here plus where ever there are blu-ray forums, and if we somehow were able to get every one to boycot this release, nothing would essentially happen.

I agree, I doubt a boycot of Avatar would work well

Cameron could just release a Blu-ray with only the trailers on it at $30 and everyone would jump on it

Boycott what ? If any movie should be boycott, it's the crap hollywood churns out year in, year out, and that everybody keep buying. Seriously, Avatar might be 100 $ for a movie only edition, it would still be worth more your money with multiple viewings, than for crap you will only watch once (and only watch half the boring self promoting supplements).

Boycott a movie that made $2.7B?

Good luck.

Fox and Cameron have laid (almost) all their cards on the table regarding releases. If you don't want to buy the no features one, fine, don't. Some of us want to and will.
