This also explains why The Goonies, a film every adult who was forced to see it at the time found totally unbearable, apparently now is a classic.
But Goonies IS a classic, regardless of what time period it came out.

In regards to Pennywise 2017 being too scary looking; for me it's the red makeup that begins at the corners of his mouth and ends above his eyes. He doesn't look like a traditional happy clown the way Pennywise 1990 looked. But, I'm fine with that and will enjoy the movie. I always assumed Pennywise 1990 was inspired by "Bozo the Clown".

I plan on seeing this opening night and I can't remember the last time I did that for any film.

It would be interesting to see what the alternative looks for Pennywise the filmmakers came up with before they settled on the end design.

I've been reading the book for the first time in the lead up to seeing this. Just passed Bens flashback to the first time he saw pennywise. The book literally describes Ben as being paralyzed with fear at the sight of Pennywise in the snow. The balloons are what drew him in, not Pennywise being a nice clown.

Just a random thing I'd throw in there in regards to the "Pennywise is to scary looking" debate.

Yup. Anyone who's read the novel would know that the commonly-spouted 'Pennywise is supposed to look friendly and inviting' notion is a load of bollocks.

I've only familiar with the mini-series and have not read the original novel but based on many friends and family who did read it, this might be closer to the novel.
I watched the first trailer and if freaked me out and if the movie itself is 1/10 what that trailer was, it going to be a real treat and I hope this will be a good movie.

In other King-related news, it seems Josh Boone will be adapting The Stand into a TV series once he's finished with New Mutants.

That's what I suspect. I have the first printing hard cover sitting on my shelf waiting to be read. I just need to dig into IT.

My guess is that just as many or more people are familiar with IT by the ABC miniseries as are the novel. I personally saw it when I was like 8 as it originally aired and it frightened me for years.

Was not even in the ballpark with Carrie, Salems Lot, The Shinning and the Stand. His first books from the 70s were by far the best.

01. It
02. The Stand
03. Salem's Lot
04. The Dark Tower: Wizard and Glass
05. Insomnia

This is indisputable fact and anybody who argues otherwise will either be a) mauled by a St Bernard with rabies, b) ran over by a 58 Plymouth Fury, or c) forced to read Dreamcatcher over and over and over again.

It's a doorstopper, though. Better clear some time in your schedule.
