I saw this in 3D the other day and thought it was just meh. Alicia Vikander is cool, as are some of the action sequences, but overall I don’t think they did a good job of establishing the character. It just felt like a predictable generic action movie.

I’ve never played the games nor have I seen the Jolie TR films, so maybe I’m missing some background. But, this film should stand on its own without the viewer having to have played the games or watched the Jolie films.

Skip the RealD 3D, if you can, it added nothing to the movie. Just a few nice depth shots when she’s looking down a cliff/waterfall, etc. I’ll probably still pick up the 3D Blu-ray if one is released and give it another chance after I finally see the Jolie films.

I hope it gets a sequel for those who really liked it.

2.5/5, rounded up to 3 for the poll

I was kind of hoping that line would make it in the movie. They could have done it in a bit of a cheeky way towards the end when everything was going wrong in the tomb.

It's absolutely awful. I immediately regretted buying the Blu-ray when i did. I rated that movie 29%, and I rated the new one 82%

Tomb Raider thankfully is more serious in tone. No smart ass comments or jokes all the time throughout the whole movie. There are a couple of instances of brief comedy, which I didn't mind at all. And that "I'll Take Two" is actually part of one. And speaking of, I don't think there's anything wrong with that. It's a nice little oneliner which ofcourse is also a nice reference to Lara's weapons of choice in the games. I think it was nicely done and perfectly timed also, unlike the constant deluge of forced and unfunny "jokes" in most recent Marvel movies.

That screenwriter I was talking about is also the writer for Marvel's upcoming Captain Marvel. She has stated that her abandoned ideas for Tomb Raider as an action comedy have now gone to that movie instead for which I am very grateful. The tone of Tomb Raider as it is now is perfect I think.
So much truth in this post!

A straightforward and enjoyable follow-the-clues action-adventure flick. It doesn't bring anything new to the genre, but it was well rounded and entertaining for the time it was playing, which turns out to be just fine for this property. 7/10

I couldn’t help it. I had to buy this. My Barnes & Noble only received one, and it was in immaculate condition.

Very nice, my copy is coming next Monday I think! How is it?

Also, not sure if posted but here's a steelbook pre-order with a pretty cool cover!

Haven't had a chance to open it, sadly, and I'm gone now until Sunday.

I saw the steelbook. I'm praying the US or Zavvi has that same cover as a 4K steelbook.

Replaying the 2013 reboot and going through all those impressive action set pieces that this movie miserably did not have aside from a very brief 5 minute sequence involving a waterfall, abandon plane and parachuting through the woods

It's my favorite scene in the movie (look no further than my avatar, lol), and shot beautifully and executed very well. I was happy to at least see it included.

We have the shipwreck sequence, Lara arriving to Yamatai on the beach, the plane parachute and Lara escaping the Tomb very reminiscent of the Den escape from the game... If they were to choose one more scene I would have gone with the tower climb. I would have used that in the final moment of the film after Lara escapes the Tomb.

Loved that moment. One of the most memorable to me years after having played it. Was thinking about it and wished it was in the movie too.
