Default Terminator...white specks/dirt?

Was just watching Terminator and while I did think the pq was alot better than I was expecting there was alot of very distracting white specs that would pop up on the screen for a split second and then be gone. Is this dirt or something on the transfer? Some scenes had lots of it flashing over different parts of the scene. Just wanted to check and make sure I don't need to exchange for another copy.

One more thing, my case is one of those new recycle friendly ones, did the original release have any artwork on the inside of the paper sleeve where you could see it after you opened the case?

Don't worry, Lowry's taking care of this as we speak. Sit tight, a squeaky clean helping of double dip is on its way.

I'm quite happy with the current Terminator disc, dirty print and all.

I heard lowry had given up on trying to remaster T1. Unless they plan on bring it with the T4 Blu-ray.

Definitely could use some proof of this. As this would be huge news if true.

Yes. This couldn't be because of the reissue with new artwork that just came out could it?

Why would they give up on it? I don't think it would be that big of a problem to restore after the work they have done on a lot of movies!

It's not done, and it's a long way from being released. They aren't even seriously going to start it until after he's done Avatar and is in a position to give input

He is obviously referring to the original Terminator on Blu-ray.

hey, just got this from Future Shop today! im working on the trilogy, will pick up the other two soon... hopefully

remember this was a low budget film, it was shot on lower quality film that probably was a lot easier to mark up than other films of the 80s were shot on.

it looked better than I was expecting, but i wont be spending another $20 just because they got rid of the dirt, i didn't mind it, thats probably how it looked when it was in theatres

im not the biggest terminator fan, actually this was the first one i've seen and I just watched it today lol. granted they were before my time, T1 being released 10 years before I was born.

anyways, i do kind of prefer the natural film grain as opposed to a noise reduction filter being applied to the video.

i don't know why, i would just rather see exactly what was on the master film or whatever they used to make the blu-ray (I'm talking about all movies, not just the terminator series) than have it look different because they try to get rid of too much of the grain.

sure their is a little dirt, but its not that distracting and adds to the gritty look and feel of the film. To me, it looks good and getting rid of that would make it look worse in my opinion.

Flashing random white specs sound like specs of dirt or dust on the negative or internegative (they would be black on a positive print or interpositive). (Specially noticeable around reel changes and splices, etc)

What the hell are you talking about? Lowry has a great reputation among purists and film buffs.

thats true. Lowry was hired by MGM to restore the entire James Bond series.

i have volume 2 of those blu-rays and they look absolutely incredible.

still, I like the way the Terminator looks now

Apples and oranges.

Besides, the T2 Skynet edition pales in comparison to the UK (Studio Canal) and Japanese (Geneon) releases where PQ is concerned.

just out of curiosity, how much have you guys gotten your copies of Terminator for?

i heard the original blu-ray was discontinued and as far as I know there is no other blu-ray release. I have also heard people say the price has dropped and it is now very cheap.

I was at future shop today and I got it for $22.99 with the flaming cyborg head slipcover. To me that seems like a bit much when the other 2 are $14.99 for T2 and $16.99 for T3 (the Skynet version of T2 is $22.99).
