Default Pioneer BDP-23FD Owners Wanted

I am looking for people who actually own, or have auditioned, the Pioneer Elite BDP-23FD.

Any reviews and links to reviews are helpful too.

I went to AVSforum for owners of 320/23, no one has the 23. They just say it is the same machine with a nicer box for an extra $200. I'm sure their must be more. Surprised so many can talk about a product that they have never used or seen. A friend of a friend told me, ...... Not so helpful.

I'd love to know if anyone has first hand experience with this player and how it performs.

I'm looking to connect it to an old-school AVR via analog. I need the machine to decode everything under the sun and be able to manage the bass. In the future it will probably have a new AVR with HDMI to talk to. Also, I listen to 2CH music.

I have an Elite TV, reciever, and the 95 player. Elites are certainly very well built and my components have been great. I am considering moving the 95 to another TV and getting the 23 myself. I really would like to see load time comparisons too.

The 23 isn't even out here yet. I am on Ontario. I am awaiting an email from my local dealer to tell me as soon as it arrives.

Default Ijust got the 23FD today!

I replaced my 95Fd with this model. It took me a while to figure out that I needed to set the Audio output to source direct, to get audio. Once I figured that out it was fine. I'm playing eith it to learn the ins/outs. So far this player is very nice.

Default Still playing with new 23FD

I just realized that I need to get me a new High speed HDMI 1.3a cable. I could not get audio to play on that setting, unless I chose source direct. After playing with the player a little more, I figured out it was the setting mention before. I ordered a new cable from monoprice, which should arrive later this week. The load times on this thing is about 1:10. This does not bother me because I would rather have the better PQ & AQ then a faster loading player with subpar PQ & AQ.

Rise23,

What is the biggest difference between the Elite BDP-23 and the BDP-320 model. It isn't just the price is it?

Have you tried connecting audio with analog cables? This is the main reason I want one.

The 23-fd is built better overall than the 320 and I think has better internal parts. I think might be something more audio/processing wise in 23fd but I'll have to check on that (I'm at work)

I have had a lot of Blu Ray Players in the past and the 23fd is the best that I have had! It look and sound great. This thing is built like a tank.... I was going to get the Oppo player, but decided to get this Pioneer 23fd to match up with my Pro 111fd and my SC-27 receiver.

The 23-fd has better parts overall. Very similiar to the 320 though.

I post this in another thread but I wonder how well does the Kuro Link work between the 23FD and the display? It said that the player and display will work simultaneously adjusting the video to optimize the picture.

Have you tried using other player and see if the Kuro Link does make a difference. Of course with your display having the isf setting it may not be as noticeable. Nice set by the way.

i have had the bdp23fd for a few weeks now, previously i've owned a lot of bluray players(bd30,bd55,bd35,ps3,bdps500 and played with near everyone on the market today as part of my job) and aside from the panasonic players this ranks up there with my favorites. its not a speed demon but i don't remember my bd55 being that much faster. on some java intensive discs its slow but i can deal. menu operations are smooth and never had it freeze on anything. i also have a decent amount of pioneer equipment and was curious how Kuro link would work out. theres a plasma tv preset mode in there for pioneer pdp but i don't see much happening when i turn it on/off. i had dan miller come and calibrate my pro111 so i leave all that stuff off anyway. the hdmi -cec is fun and convenient but i use my harmony one. i used pqls a few times and heard a small difference but nothing night and day. i bought the player cause being in the industry i know what a commitment to quality pioneer elite has, it has source direct which my bd55 didnt, and having it say all elite on my equipment was just cool cosmetically.

Very well. I just found it interesting that the product info on the website list:

"The new KURO LINK Video Adjustment System automatically switches to optimal video settings adjusted by unique parameters developed by Pioneer KURO and Blu-ray Disc player engineers".

Interested in hearing if more people have done any comparison and if it's enough to sway my decision in getting the Elite. I agree with you and other people who believes in the high quality of the Elite product.

Default Pioneer BDP-23

Everyone can appreciate quality and that is what the BDP 23 is from the ground up. This player has the unique features of players, twice and tree times the price. And to offer it at a discount price of 50% off no one can top that.

Great player in very aspect PQ & AQ. Its the best player for the buck. I would never second guess it. I just had a bad experience with BB, so I had to return it. Had I not had a bad experience I would not have chosen the Oppo. I do miss my 23fd because it look so sexy with my receiver and Pro-111.

Any 23fd owner here have issues with Lost Season 2 (specifically disc 2)? I get the "can't play this disc" message intermittently with this disc. I do have the latest 3.41 firmware.

Got the 23FD on sale from BB over the holidays. Planning on upgrading the firmware soon. Is it better updating via ethernet or burning the update on the cd?
