Default 7.1 or bi-wired fronts?

I'm looking for help on this if you have experience with it, not just the I have 7.1 and like it so get that. Also I did have 7.1 but bailed a while ago on it due to the lack of 7.1 blu-ray releases that I felt were must watch titles.

I have a denon 3808 which has an assignable amp for bi-wiring, b&w 683's and the htm61 center. I havent purchased surrounds yet and am curious about bi-wiring.

Any help, suggestions, personal experiences would be much appreciated.

You are talking about bi-amping (passive) not bi-wiring. If you have the extra wire and are not using the other two channels I say why not? I'm currently doing just that, but keep in mind the improvement will not be night and day when you bi-amp with a passive cross over.

There is a good bi-amp thread in the Sticky part of this section of the forum. This should answer most if not all of your questions about bi-amping/bi-wiring.

Thumbs up

I have those exact same speakers they rock! I have an Integra DTR 9.9. It is 7.1. The experts that set up my system said not to bi-wire for my set up, but to use the extra two channels to run speakers outside the house. That is the option I will go with. But give it a try either way see what sounds better to you.

It depends on your own ears, but there seems to be little, if any, sonic improvement from what most members have stated. I felt I got a little extra "kick" from the low frequencies out of my fronts.

I have the same receiver and was using the assignable amp at one point for my rear (6.1). When I bought my NHT VT-2’s I decided to ditch the 6.1 for 5.1 and bi-amp fronts. There is a slight difference, but not much. You're not going to get the WOW factor unless you listen to a lot of 2ch music. I'm actually considering 7.1 myself now.

Thank you much for that feed back.

No problem. I was in the same boat a few months ago. I would give it a shot and see how you like it.

I bi-amped the mains in my setup and I think there is a small improvement. Nothing huge, but every little bit helps. I say give it a try and see what you think. If you can't tell a difference then go to a 7.1 setup.
